EX-OFFICIAL SAYS FBI CAN SECRETLY ACTIVATE AN INDIVIDUAL’S WEBCAM WITHOUT THE INDICATOR LIGHT TURNING ON

The FBI can secretly activate a computer’s webcam to spy on an individual without turning on the indicator light, a former official revealed to the Washington Post in an article published Friday.

According to the Washington Post’s account of what Marcus Thomas — former assistant director of the FBI’s Operational Technology Division in Quantico — said, “The FBI has been able to covertly activate a computer’s camera — without triggering the light that lets users know it is recording — for several years, and has used that technique mainly in terrorism cases or the most serious criminal investigations.”

> The problem I see is that “they” are so busy listening, watching us, they miss the terrorists — e.g., the Tsarnaev brothers — Russia warned them multiple times, yet they ignored and clearly weren’t watching them or listening to them.

Well true patriots that love their country ARE enemies of Communists and Muslims that are currently in midst of staging a coup to take over your country. Its a matter of perspective depending on which side you’re on.

One thing to note here ... is that all these particular programs cannot be activated on a “non-jailbroken” iPhone. That’s one reason why no one should ever “jailbreak” their iPhone. By doing that you purposefully strip out the protections that the Apple iOS has built into it - and all sorts of other bad things can happen with it.

I was on another thread about this, a while back ... just check my posts further on down the thread ...

That’s great news! I have a friend who gets around faster than most...in spite of the fact that her two legs are also *useless*. One day, she loaded her van and got in to drive off, before I even knew she was out front. She told me not to even try to keep up with her :)

I do not have my webcam hooked up unless I am using it.

Hard times here. My laptop has no camera, nor a microphone, though I often hear one of two police 'copters in Calgary, circling the neighbourhood. Since the house is near the Forest Lawn Immigrant Lawn neighbourhood, that is not a surprise.

OK, if you are looking at me, tell me where on this computer I turn the camera on and off. I don’t see anything on the keyboard that does that.

This is nothing new.

“UPDATE 2/19/2010 6:14 PM ET: The Associated Press reports that the FBI is investigating the Lower Merion School District over allegations that a high school in the school district spied on students through their laptop webcams.”

“Boing Boing reports that according to details included in the Blake J Robbins v Lower Merion School District filings, ‘The issue came to light when the Robbins’s child was disciplined for “improper behavior in his home” and the Vice Principal used a photo taken by the webcam as evidence. ‘”

Funny the FBI investigated spying with a laptops when

For anyone who hasn’t already done it black electrical tape works wonders. I don’t even notice the black tape covering up my laptop cameras. Even if it’s disabled in the BIOS i’m sure the Obamastapo can get in and turn it on.

I am sure that the practice of disabling a webcam will become a felony.

In the book, 1984, the govn. watched you through their TV you had to have and it was against the law to cover the camera they had on the TV. Computers with these cameras are exactly that book with the FBI using them and probably Hussein himself gets his kicks from looking at me. At least, I always have some kind of clothes on.

It would be extremely difficult for them to do that on mine since it stays unplugged from the USB until I need it.

I keep mine pointed to the ceiling. But hey, now that I know they can do it whenever they want, I'm going have it pointed at a nice picture of Obama with the letters FUBO across it all the time......

Suck it, NSA.

Re: Apple products
The iPhone and iPad have remote activation built-in. Only someone who has “jailbroken” it AND replaced the “spy” code is protected. A stock iPhone or iPad is not safe. (Of course, neither is an iMac or MacBook.)

Most people who jailbreak iPhones do not understand they would need to change the root password.

Since terrorists (eg. Boston Atrocity) do not
need a passport with this pRes_ _ent,
and NSA will not monitor terrorists’ calls
as it does normal Americans under the Tyrant,
and since Congress and Moslems are exempt from ObamaCARE
and deathPANELS,
one wonders how the FBI recognizes Moslem terrorists
with this, to allow the FBI to move on and
get back to “work” peering into normal Americans’ bedrooms
(rather than arresting the Benghazi murderers,
for example)?

Only on a jailbroken iPhone would anyone have that possibility - which is why no one should ever jailbreak their iPhone.
