TAMPA (CBS Tampa) — Artist Jon McNaughton is standing up for gun rights in his latest painting.

Titled “Stand Your Ground” – a controversial law brought into the limelight when George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla. – his work depicts a man dressed in soldier fatigues holding both an assault rifle and an American flag.

I have no artistic talent at all. I think that is why I admire those who do so much.

That one looks like a photograph it is so good.

It’s not just the realism, accuracy and detail, it’s the spirit in the pictures.

Love it.

I can get the uniform. But at 65, I would bear little similarity to the subject in the painting except for the rifle. Which is perhaps the artist's point.

Not blaming the article, but it wasn't a Stand Your Ground case.

I can still wear my old uniform. Well, some of it. The socks.

The fact that it was self-defense on Zimmerman’s part—Confirmed by the jury verdict—Also seems to be overlooked.

When the Rifle magazine runs out, the handgun could be quite handy to have. It’s a thing called backup.
When ammo was expended, GI’s and Marines reached to the side for their knives.
