DETROIT (WWJ) The mayor of Boston is drawing criticism for recent comments he made about Detroit.
In an interview with the New York Times, Mayor Thomas Menino was asked if he could live in any other city in America other than Boston, where would he choose.
He at first said hed never thought of living in any other city, but then added: Detroit is a place Id love to go.
When the reporter asked Menino what hed do in Detroit, the mayor responded: Id blow up the place and start all over.

That girl does “shocked” really well. She could start her own Meme. I don’t think
I have heard Menino speak. Is it true that he mumbles?
: )
The problem is, they’d put the very same policies in place that led to the current fiasco.
It’s so bad that it seems that he’s speaking a foreign language.
Man, that opens your eyes!
Please no. They’d have to put the, um....fine upstanding civic-minded citizens of Detroit somewhere else when they did it. Then when the city was rebuilt all shiny and new and full of high value property, those fine upstanding former Detroit citizens would stay right where they are, offering their new communities those same fine qualities which made Detroit what it was, while the super-rich elite move into the new penthouses in Shiny New Detroit.
LOL! Only because he’s a Boston crook that doesn’t live in Detroit.
Mumbles is probably one of the few people who could carry on a conversation with Jesse Jackson.
Blow it up? How about we cut welfare, tax the poor and give incentives to the rich.
What would a Democrat know about improving a city?
OTOH, Curley perfected the economic burdening of those that would oppose him, chasing the wealthy out to the 'burbs.
Detroit's Coleman Young did the same thing, on steroids, but to the white middle class. Some where along the time line, the black middle class started to wise up. Those not on the city payroll, that is, and fled as well.
You can’t tax the poor who don’t have jobs and we’re already regaining at least some of the taxpayer dollars we give them when they pay sales tax.
Big business actually does OK in Detroit and more is coming all the time as taxes rise elsewhere and make Detroit more attractive. Business is putting big bucks into Detroit these days.
What Detroit needs is homeowners and small businessmen (It needs a middle class) Things are still too tough for them there but I think they will get better as the corruption is rooted out. Just last week a full 10% of Detroit building inspectors were charged with solicitation of bribery and taking bribes. The union fund manager was also fired last week.
How does anyone understand that fat tongued idiot?
When the reporter asked Menino what hed do in Detroit, the mayor responded: Id blow up the place and start all over.
Sooooo the problem in Detroit is with the BUILDINGS!???..
What are they smoking in Boston?.. I think the problem in Boston is NOT merely Menino...
Boston’s head is not screwed on correctly..
Hey Mumbles, one month and sixteen days until the Detroit Free Press Marathon...
Exactly.
