Paul: "50/50" Chance That House Will Vote Down Syria Authorization
Press Pass ^ | September 1,2013 | Carrie Dann

A leading skeptic of U.S. intervention in conflicts abroad said Sunday that he believes there is only a "50/50" chance that the GOP-controlled House will vote to authorize the use of U.S military force in the Syria.

"I think it's at least 50/50 whether the House will vote down involvement in the Syrian war," Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky said on NBC's Meet the Press.

“I think it’s at least 50/50 whether the House will vote down involvement in the Syrian war,”

SHEESH! There’d better be more than that!

With polls showing support for an attack on Syria at less than 10% approval I find it hard to believe that there is even a close chance of a supporting vote in the House.

The GOP should vote “present” let the Dems and Obama be fully accountable for this folly.

Exactly. I’m sure Paul sought to comfort. This isn’t comforting at all.

50/50?

It’s like being asked if it’s dark at midnight, and you can only get a 50/50 vote on it.

The gop “leaders” have already assured their master they have the votes needed for him to attack.

It is funny watching people like “Horseface” saying “The president has the authority to do whatever the hell he pleases but it was courageous of him to go to congress.” Their hypocracy (sp?)is just as bad as that of their voters.

Unfortunately, this congress doesn’t care what the people think. They believe they always know what’s best for us.

It all depends on what Grover Al Norquist demands of his republicans.

There are consequences to ignoring our own brotherhood infection.

The House is out on August recess. I’m sure they haven’t bee properly whip counted. I would guess it’s a good bet that nobody knows how that vote would go.

In fact, between now and when Congress comes back in session in a week, many congresscritters (including mine) will still be holding town halls and this will now be one of the issues discussed. Public sentiment isn’t going to clamor for militarily supporting our enemies.

Republicans would be CRAZY to support the Administration on this (not that that stops the current GOP-e leadership).

If the democrats fall in line, Obama only needs 17 republican votes in the house. He’ll probably get more than 100.

As usual, Obama is trying to buy votes. This is Chicago style tactics. Need that highway project? Want some Obamacare waivers? Want the NTSB to not demand recalls from the Toyota plant production in your district? Want that military base in your district to stay off the closure list?

And it goes on.......................Sweeten the pot, and poison the rest.

“With polls showing support for an attack on Syria at less than 10% approval”

The polls are changing:

“the public is more supportive of military action when it’s limited to launching cruise missiles from U.S. naval ships — 50 percent favor that kind of intervention, while 44 percent oppose it.”

When has this Congress not given Obama what he wants, when he really wants it?

Good chance the authorization will never get out of committee. Any member of Congress inclined to vote authorization will face enormous backlash. Reid will be pressured by hard pressed Democrats facing reelection not to force a vote.

I thought the NBC poll showed around 40%. It depends on any evidence Obama puts out as well but there is definitely going to be more support for strikes if the Congress authorizes it. I still doubt anything will happen unless there is another chemical attack.

I suspect the Republican leadership right now are already trying to work out who gets to vote “for” and “against”, to give Obama his cover, but allow certain congressmen to get away with claiming they were against it.
