Gun charges against a new Black Panther Party leader have been dropped, court officials said.
After pleading guilty in Gwinnett County last year to writing a bad check for $3,000, a felony, Hashim Nzinga was arrested for selling a gun at a DeKalb County pawn shop, authorities said.
It is illegal in Georgia for a convicted felon to have a gun, and Nzinga, 49, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and arrested on March 26.
Last week, DeKalb County prosecutors dismissed the charge.
Nzinga hadnt been told he shouldnt own a firearm, DeKalb Assistant District Attorney Helen Peters told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
I got confirmation from Gwinnett that he wasnt notified of his rights until after he sold the gun, Peters said.
Days before Nzingas arrest, the Stone Mountain father of six and chief of staff of the New Black Panther Party told the news media the organization was offering a $10,000 bounty for the citizens arrest of George Zimmerman, who admitted to killing unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in self-defense last year in Sanford, Fla.

All the pissing and moaning about gun control and this guy walks
Do I smell a “fix” or just sheer incompetence? But then, again, Georgia is a Democratic state so it is probably both.
That’s the influence of the “Just Us” Department.
Just try that “hadnt been told” defense if you are a cracker and see how far it gets you.........
A phone call from Eric Holder to let him go, I’ll bet.
Ignorance of the law....yadda
That could be the “fix”. Holder The Fixer!
Do I smell a fix or just sheer incompetence? But then, again, Georgia is a Democratic state so it is probably both.
When did Georgia turn Democrat again?
Holder, the DOJ and Obamalamadingdong’s America
Absolutely. But George Zimmerman getting his gun back, that’s another issue entirely...
It smells like Eric the Holder got to the “prosecutors” and made them an offer they couldn’t refuse.
I find it hard to believe that hardly anyone doesn’t know about felons and guns, but especially gun oriented, violent, gun owning felons, that are leaders of militant groups.
Notified of his rights.... as a FELON? He already knew he was a felon, and couldn’t possess much less sell a firearm. There was NO formal need to “notify” him of his “lack” of rights. There is no mystery here. This is BS PC crap from a scared DA.
This is not Miranda rights, but legal advice. Ignorance of the law is NEVER an excuse.
I wonder if they were threatened, or the "fixer" has something on them?
He’s either illiterate or didn’t listen to the judge and read the sentencing and final disposition document. I suspect he’s just an illiterate moron.
