President Obama is considering a strike on Syrian military targets involving sea-launched cruise missiles or possibly long-range bombers that would last no more than two days, according to senior administration officials and reported by Karen DeYoung and Anne Gearan of The Washington Post. Reuters reports that the West has told the opposition to expect a strike "within days."
The limited strike would seemingly be a response to allegations that the Syrian government used chemical weapons on its own people before dawn on August 21. Hundreds were killed and thousands suffered "neurotoxic symptoms."
The design of the potential attack implies sending a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad without becoming entrenched in the 29-month conflict.
On Monday U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said: "There is a reason why President Obama has made clear to the Assad regime that this international norm [of chemical weapons use] cannot be violated without consequences."
The Post notes that the targets would not be directly related to Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal and would probably include key government buildings in the capital and perhaps airfields.

“Surely President 0bama doesn’t intend to hurt anyone or accomplish anything with his Kinetic Action. So we’re just asking for fair notice,” said Assad.

Okay, let’s pretend we’re Assad:
AIDE: The Americans are planning a two-day strike on you for using chemical weapons.
ASSAD: Okay, let’s think what options I can have. I can say I’ve learned my lesson, lay off the rebels, let them win, and then get tortured and hung. Or I could find a good hideout for a few days and keep doing what I’m doing. And with any luck, Obama’s bombs could kill a few kids and I could send the images all over the world and inflame the Muslims agains the U.S., which is never very hard to do. My choices here aren’t exactly difficult.
AIDE: But if you ignore Obama, he could get very angry.
ASSAD: And what’s he going to do about it? The Americans don’t want to get bogged down in another Middle East war. Worst case, it’s another round of bombing. And if the Russians and the Middle Eastern community back me, Obama would probably back off even that.
When I read the headline I couldn’t help but recall Clinton’s Balkan war, the enemy (I always had a tough considering them an enemy) would place dummy tanks and aircraft out so our high flying Air Force would waste expensive bombs - and they did. Understandably, the AF always goes for overkill, so a lot of money went into making big holes in vacant fields.
Obongo's drawing us in and he will go with or without the consent of the Congress and the Consent of the Governed. This could be an impeachable act if he botches it and was not legally covered. What's it to him if a few US pilots get shotdown, some guys get seriously injured in the cruise missile prep on our ships, Americans citizens are kidnapped by Hezbollah in Beirut,, US Embassy and consulates across the Middle East are MANPAD-ed with major strikes, and otherwise all hell breaks loose. Domestically, he can get NSA, Obamacare, Fox News wiretap-gate, IRS-gate and Benghazi off the front pages.

And the timing has another benefit: it pushes into the background all that pesky talk about the out-of-control national debt that is reapidly approaching $17 trillion. We’ll have to deal with that “later”.
I think this is all a pretext to go to war and take control of Syria.
Why?
To preserve the right to place giant oil pipeline from the oil producers to the European Union.
Why does Russia care?
Because they want to sell their oil to the EU and this will be competition.
Otherwise, why would anyone care about the plight of Syrians in civil war?
In my opinion, it does not matter which side we support, it is merely to gain control of the territory for the sole purpose of placing a large tube on the land.
I may be wrong, but why are our troops going to be placed in harm’s way for the benefit of European Oil? Why can’t Europe fight for themselves? Why must it be the US?
We will only invite retaliation.
Retaliation against us will invite further clampdown on our civil rights “to keep us safe.”
All of this so European socialism can survive the malaise in which it wallows.
Perhaps we should just disband Congress, that way he can spend their salaries on more vacations.
Why would Assad use WMD’s when he is winning the war against the so called rebels? it doesn’t add up. Could this be a set up?
Is this all going down according to the Muslim Brotherhood/Al Qaida plan???
If Assad falls, who will take over? Who is the frying pan? Who is the fire?
