Former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich told a meeting of the Republican National Committee that his party needs to move beyond its image of steadfast opposition to President Barack Obama and convince voters its goal is to improve the country.
We have to get beyond being anti-Obama and we have to convince people you can have hope in America, Gingrich said on Wednesday. What we have to do, in a sense, is be a party of optimism and a party of hope and show actual cases of how it can work.
Speaking at a Boston hotel adjacent to where Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney delivered his 2012 concession speech after failing to unseat Obama, Gingrich said the party needed to be more alert to ways Americans were changing, particularly in their use of technology. What happened last year? Why were so many of us wrong? Gingrich asked the group.

He is correct,as usual.
The substance is different from the headline that is a distortion. The image is created by the treacherous tyrant Obama to destroy the Republican efforts at change. The minions in the press must be taken on, called out for the scoundrels and American enemies they are.
Positive solid programs must be strongly presented.

The GOP establishment had no plan to see anyone but Romney nominated. Romney would have been fatally wounded by the tie in Michigan if not for a little primary night help from the GOP establishment.
The Michigan Republican Party (MRP) Credentials Committee voted 4-2 last night to give Mitt Romney both of the state's at-large delegates, State Policy Committee Chair Mike Cox told MIRS today.
Cox was one of two "no" votes on the committee which met via telephone, along with attorney Eric Doster The "yes" votes included GOP National Committeeman Saul Anuzis, a Romney supporter, and MRP Chair Bobby Schostak.
That would put the delegate split at 16 for Romney and 14 for Rick Santorum, after each candidate won 14 delegates apiece in those divided by Michigan's 14 congressional districts.
As MIRS first reported on Wednesday, the MRP was delaying a final decision on the delegate split until after consulting with attorneys.
Cox said that according to the MRP rules, Santorum and Romney should each get one of Michigan's two at-large delegates based on their take of the popular vote.
"I supported Mitt, but the vote was clearly wrong," Cox said of the Credentials Committee. "It's kind of like Third World voting. We published rules and then we voted to change the rules."
Because The Narrative Cannot Survive A Rewrite
I know Gingrich faced some of the same manipulations in places like Florida. Basically the GOP was behaving like the Obama Machine.
In 08, Romney walked to an easy victory over McCain with a nearly 10 point win and they expected him to float this time. That tie with Santorum could have severely crippled Romney and the race would have likely shifted away from Romney.

party needs to move beyond its image of steadfast oppositionFirst of all there is no "steadfast opposition" from the GOP. Second, the "image" of it is a creation of the MSM, not the GOP.
For example, the recent round table with Gohmert, Castro, Brazile, Will, and Stephanopoulos. There was Gohmert trying to be the sweet old grandpa so everyone would smile at him, which they did, like he just drooled the letter R in ornamental cursive. Then they mentioned the extremist right wing Tea Party, and no one batted an eye because it's just a given.
The Republican Party is gently getting escorted off stage, and now Newt wants it to take extra meds.
I'm a Newt fan, but I have my limits. What we need is "steadfast opposition." That and a tax revolt, because ultimately the political class doesn't care what we say, only that we pay.

So, for all the Newt fans on here (who attacked those of us who knew better viciously during his campaign), tell me again what a great Conservative he is...

The gathering - the RNC's regular summer meeting - was originally scheduled to be held in Chicago, but Republican leaders decided to move the venue to Boston in the wake of the April 15 Boston Marathon bombing, which killed three people and injured about 264. And, oh yeah, why does the RNC have its meetings in liberal bastions like Chicago and Boston but never in more Conservative cities in the south and west?

Gingrich: consistently inconsistent.
He is on the side of whatever is politically expedient for him at the time.
He represents a great part of what is wrong with Washington: too many former politicians who are still hanging around the Capitol and directly or indirectly feeding off FED teats.

They need to run on a platform of visibly shrinking government. They can start by sunsetting laws and regulations. Then move on to pink-slipping a third of Federal employees, starting with congressional and presidential staffers, and getting rid of several extra-constitutional agencies.

Many of them missed the use of word 'image' in the above. Ironically the same who claim that Newt was the shutdown hero of 1995 who brought Clinton to his knees are miffed by the above opinion/lecturing by him.

Yes, I think he is right....
BUT...
I think 47% of America needs to learn about it the hard way before any significant lasting conservative system can take root.

HA_HA, good old Newt lecturing his students.
I keep reading here (in comments) how Newt was the shutdown master who brought Clinton to his knees begging for mercy in 1995/1996 signing that unconditional surrender balanced budget just like the Germans had to in that French railway train car end of WWI. (Talk radio too)
Oh its is a grand epic bed-time story for the grand kids , just like David and Goliath.
Our role model Newt the Lion .... now this cold water Newt style 'You guys are too negative' LOLO.
