"Was speed a factor?" Speed can always be a factor when you hack into the ECM and floor the accelerator.

Never buy a car that cannot be stopped by using the brakes. Which means, buy a car that doesn’t have so much power the engine can over power the brakes.
If you can floor the car then press on the brakes and stop the car and if a manual you can kill the engine or automatic you can cause it to stall and stop it is a good car, if the engine is too powerful you are at the mercy of the computer....
Of course the computer could use the ABS system to lock the brakes so you could be screwed anyways...

They are using a video recording that caught part of the accident to say he was driving approximately 35 mph. I don't see how his car burst into flames and the engine landed 100 feet away if he was only going 35 mph. Something else had to be involved to cause all that damage. Are we living in the soviet union? We have the commie bastard president.

Push in Clutch and engine wraps itself to death, but you avoid death!

With an automatic, just shut of the ignition. The steering will require some extra effort, but unless you are about to go around a curve, it shouldn’t be too much of a challenge. This practice experience was part of drivers education back when. Stopping just using the emergency brake was also practiced.

Manual transmission solves this problem. Any car you can shift into neutral solves this problem.
