Why Chris Christie could save the GOP from itself
The Washington Post ^ | July 12, 2013 | Sean Sullivan

Perhaps no other politician enjoys the cross-party likability that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is sporting these days. And that’s why he may just be the key to the Republican Party repairing its brand in the coming years.

[...]

But if Christie’s numbers hold up over time, it will be hard to argue there is a better ambassador for the GOP to expand its reach. And the power of the electability argument that Christie would be able to make in the 2016 primary shouldn’t be underestimated. Washington Post-ABC News polling consistently showed Republicans felt in the 2012 primary that Mitt Romney had the best shot in the general election.

Why is it no one ever worries about "repairing" the Democrat brand?

I see Rove is already ramping up for 2016. We must fight with everything we have to not let him control our presidential nominee like he did last time.

Christie will not carry the South and a Republican who can’t win in the South has zero chance of being elected President.

Christie can "save" the GOP - in the sense of formally transforming it into a group of well-connected, well-behaved, acceptable at cocktail parties, JFK Democrats - who politely lose the big elections to real Democrats whenever they are directed to do so.

"Saving the GOP" in MSM parlance means driving out conservatives and libertarians, and that is exactly what Christie's ascension would permanently do.

That's why I have no use for moderates. They scream about extremists on the right while the fascist left continues their goosestepping to disaster unabated.

Just how close to shutting down is the Compost? The Boston Globe came *very* close a year or two ago. It’s said that one or two companies are showing a bit of interest in buying the Globe today for $100 million although the NY Slimes bought it 20 years ago for $1.2 billion.

Shumer says amnesty is the only way the GOP can save itself. This MSM ComPost nitwit says RINO Christie can save the GOP.

Why would anyone take advise from people who want the GOP to be a perpetual minority party? Heck, the GOP-E leadershp is more comfortable with the GOP being a perpetual minority party.

Bush won as a conservative and his popularity plummeted in 2005 when he abandoned it. The House and Senate were lost after Majority Leader Delay said he ‘just couldn’t see anything to cut’ in the budget.

We ran the left’s favorite Republican McCain (the same one who undercut conservatives at every turn from 2000-2006) to be the nominee, and he lost in 2008.

The base led the way in 2010 and we won an unprecedented number of seats at every level.

In 2012, the DC consultants took back over and put a very moderate one-term Massachusetts governor at the top of the ticket, and added ‘sure things’ in Senate races in key swing states like Mack in FL. Allen in VA, and Tommy Thompson in WI. They all got thrashed after running bland, unimpressive campaigns.

Now, we have to correct from our failings and run an unpredictable moderate Republican from another Northeastern state. Makes perfect sense.

No No NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOO!!!!

What’s the use, I said the same thing about Romney in 2009, in response to exactly these kind of posts and we still got him. I’m about ready to resign to inevitability, I was never so angry as during the last primaries, and I don’t wan’t to relive it.

Fine, let Christie run for national office as a Republican and see how far he gets. Conservatives won’t be voting for him....

Here we go again.

As usual, the liberal left is picking the Presidential candidate for the Republican Party, and, once again, they’ll obediently go along with it.
