As the Department of Labor (DOL) celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Fair Labor Standards Act this year, the department is sponsoring a Smartphone app contest to help consumers identify businesses who treat "their workers fairly and lawfully." The DOL requests [emphasis added] that contestants:
develop a smartphone application that will transform the way the public is able to use departmental enforcement data. By providing consumers with information at their fingertips about which businesses have treated their workers fairly and lawfully, the creator of this application will help empower consumers to make informed choices about where to bring their business.
According to the Labor Department, the finished product should integrate:
the department's publicly available enforcement data with consumer ratings websites, geo-positioning Web tools, and other relevant data sets, such as those available from state health boards.
Presumably the data incorporated into the app would consist only of past infractions for which the targeted businesses have already been cited and penalized. The DOL seems to suggest the app could be used as something of a blacklist for job-seekers and other businesses:
The app could also prove a useful tool for job seekers and

I foresee a huge John Galt action if this goes far enough.

PATRIOT1876 ~:" I foresee a huge John Galt action if this goes far enough."
No , I don't see it happening !
It's sorta like the frog in the pan of water , .. where the water keepings getting warmer.
If the frog was put in hot water , it would jump out!
But , by gradually increasing the temp , the frog doesn't see anything threatening happening , and gets cooked !
If it was such a good program , would the Federals really be interested in it, and develope this app ??
Think about that ...! Right ! This is the most supporting Capitalistic administration since ... ?

The DOL employees who thought this app up have apparently never dealt with the public or disgruntled employees.
I wonder could this app be modified to identify unhappy or unfair treatment of citizens by public servants?

Walmart is probably not eligible. Everybody knows that they exploit their employees, even if the employees dont know it, and Walmarts employees need to unionize. /sarc
Tom Sullivan did an hour on his radio show today about the Wal*Mart/Washington, D.C. deal today. There was a call from one dope who kept repeating the "Wal*Mart abuses their employees" meme but could not explain it, and a message from a union stooge that barked the usual "they ain't union so I hates 'em" line. Then there were calls from a Wal*Mart employee who loves his job and expressed that convincingly and an emotional call from a guy who pointed out that some of the greeters hired by Wal*Mart might not find work elsewhere due to disabilities.
But you're right. The left (and this government, which seem to be one and the same) won't let that employer be eligible. If they were to win they'd scrub the votes. I am so sick of the lies the left has managed to turn into common "knowledge".

How about an app that allows someone to enter the name of a government worker that does not treat its customers fairly and automatically posts the workers name (and the names of the entire management chain all the way to the President) and a description of the infraction to a website for all to see?
