The incident involves the unwitting exposure of "tens of thousands" of Social Security numbers, according to a recent audit by the independent transparency and public-domain group Public.Resource.org. The identifying numbers were on the Internet for less than 24 hours after being discovered, but the damage was done. And unfortunately, the data-breach concerns some of the most sensitive types of transactions: Those made by nonprofit political groups known as 527s.

Let me guess - the SSN released all belong to the members of the American resistance: Tea Party Movement, Republican Party, Libertarian Party, the Catholic Church, etc.
I’d like to think that, but do you realize how hard it is to get a hold of the right person to get something like that remedied. And the first person to report it, isn’t the first person to find it.

Yet, it is easy enough to fight back but most people will prefer their TV’s. Just inundate the IRS with paperwork. Fill out your forms in sloppy handwriting, make an agent read it, don’t leave it legible enough for the machines to scan it. Amend your return, submit quarterly estimates for small amounts. Sure, Obama’ll just keep printing the money anyway, but a paralyzed IRS could be fun.
Angry at the media? Attack the NYT advertisers. How long could they hang on, they’re already on the edge of bankruptcy. Push them over a cliff.

There should be a mechanism by which this sot of thing could happen accidentally. Computers that contained this sort of information should not have internet access.

Oops. So somebody out there does have a copy. Of course, there will be a destination IP address in the logs too and I'm sure the IRS is right on top of finding out who has the entire DVD. Which naturally won't be copied and redistributed in the meantime. That would be wrong.
