Will The Decriminalization of Polygamy Increase The Number of Republican Voters?

Posted on 07/03/2013 8:50:16 AM PDT by pinochet

Whenever I hear of Republicans supporting the prosecution of Mormon Fundamentalist sects which practice polygamy, I often shake my head in amazement. Republicans are often called the stupid party, because they support liberal policies that harm the interests of the the party and its supporters.

First of all, polygamous lifestyles are perfectly legal in America, for people associated with leftist causes. Hippie Communes were very common in America in the 1960s and 1970s, and they received high-profile favorable coverage in the liberal media. Communes were places where many men and women lived together in a spirit of free-love, and most of those communes had children living in them. But none of those communes were shut down under polygamy laws. In fact, some of those hippie communes survive to this day. See: http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=96711&page=1#.UdQ8wqzis44

For decades, Hugh Hefner has flaunted his polygamous lifestyle, living with several women in his Playboy Mansions. He has never been prosecuted for polygamy. American Muslims live openly polygamous lifestyles, but nobody bothers them. See: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=90857818

What do hippies, Hugh Hefner fans, and Muslims have in common? They are all Democratic Party voters.

Polygamy is illegal for only one category of Americans - White Conservative Christians. Criminalization of polygamy only targets White Conservative Christians. They are the only group that stands to benefit if polygamy is de-criminalized, because they are the only group that is targeted for polygamy prosecutions.

Democratic Party feminists know that, legalization of polygamy will result in too many right-wing White Babies being born to White Fundamentalists Christians. When these right-wing White babies grow up, they may outlaw abortion. These right-wing White babies are likely to be strong supporters of the American military when they grow up. Given that most Mormons are right-wing Anglo-Saxons, they are likely to be defenders of traditional American history honoring the Founding Fathers, the American constitution, and the right to gun ownership.

For those who fear that polygamy might undermine Judeo-Christian values, I would like to remind them that Judeo-Christian values were founded by polygamists such as Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and King David. Some Christians tell me that they were more faithful followers of God than the Americans of today. Do you agree with them?

The only reason why liberals support criminalization of polygamy, when they support all other forms of deviant sexual behavior, including sickening forms of pornography, is to prevent right-wing White fundamentalist Christian babies from being born. Given that the Republican Party is too stupid to understand its own long-term interests, it goes along with the liberal agenda that undermines its interests.

I hope the news that the White population in America is declining, was taken seriously by Republicans. There are more White deaths than births in America. See: http://rt.com/usa/us-white-births-census-613/

If liberals want to enjoy their sexuality with porn and gay sex, what justification exists to prevent conservative White Christians polygamists from using their sexuality to bring White babies to this world?

So liberals support deviant behavior, then we should too, because it is maybe a little less deviant? AND we should accept polygamy because it will give us more white conservative voters? Is that what you are saying?

Talk about selling your soul!

The writer is confusing ‘polygamy’ with ‘polyamory’............

Do you consider Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and King David, to be people who engaged in deviant behavior? Abortion is what I consider to be deviant behavior.

Don’t know that I’d approve of “polygamy” as practiced by say Warren Jeffs...

Keep it consensual and between adults. Keep the government out of it. Keep your perversions away from my kids.

Do what thou wilt.

>>>Keep it consensual and between adults

Of course, it should be restricted to consenting adults. Personally, I would never live a polygamous lifestyle. I have been faithfully and happily married to one woman for 30 years.

I am not even opposed to making polygamy illegal, so long as it is made illegal for all people, and not selectively enforced against Fundamentalist Mormons. My post want meant to provoke passionate debate on double standards on laws criminalizing sexual behavior.

But does it not bother you that prosecutions of polygamy are only enforced on religious fundamentalist Whites, when all other people, Muslims, pornographers, hippes, etc, are exempt?

I agree that Warren Jeffs belongs in prison for underage sex.

But does it not bother you...

Lots of things bother me.

As for making poly-whatever illegal, you'd need to pass an Amendment at the Fed level. Possibly at the State level as well depending on what your State Constitution says about Religious freedom.

Double standards and hypocrisy suck. In a general sense. Even more so when it's used to deprive consenting parties of liberty in the name of some "law" applied arbitrarily or capriciously. Be it a multi-partner marriage, or mis-application of unConstitutional gun laws.

It might be immoral. It might be a sin. It might seem icky to normal people. But if all Parties are acting in the context of Consenting Adults, leave 'em alone.

Or as TJ put it...

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

>>>>Are you Mormon?

No, I am not a Mormon. And I am not a polygamist, and will never practice polygamy in my own life. But you don’t have to be a Mormon in order to notice the selective enforcement of laws against polygamy. And given that Utah is one of the most Republican states in America, it is perfectly legitimate for Republicans to have an intellectual discussion on how this selective enforcement is intended to hurt Republicans.

Why, yes indeed I do.

Romans 3:12 Psalms 14:1-3; 53:1-3; Eccles. 7:20

“There is no one righteous, not even one;
11 there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”[b]
13 “Their throats are open graves;
their tongues practice deceit.”[c]
“The poison of vipers is on their lips.”[d]
14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”[e]
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 ruin and misery mark their ways,
17 and the way of peace they do not know.”[f]
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”[g]

What planet are you from?

There are no “Conservative Christians” who are polygamous. Christianity—from its earliest days, looking to Jesus teaching on marriage, and Paul’s instructions about Church leadership (that, if married, men must “be the husband of one wife”)—has consistantly, throughout 2,000 years of history, rejected polygamy. None of the Apostles were polygamous—and all Christian denominations everywhere....have frowned on polygamy.

The fact that you had some twisted charlatans named Smith and Young in the mid 1800s who came up with a religious justification to take other men’s wives....and a few believed them—and ceased to be Christians in following those anti-Christian falsehoods—doesn’t change the fact that ALL CHRISTIANS EVERYWERE ARE MONOGAMOUS!

The fundamentalist separatist Mormons who keep whole stables of wives...are disgusting—keeping teens and their mothers as wives, and treating their women like baby-factories...barefoot and pregnant. But that’s consistent with their false religion....as a woman’s salvation, they think, depends on her husband, right? THAT’S NOT CONSERVATIVE OR CHRISTIAN!!!

This crap doesn’t belong on FR. Every instance of polygamy in the Bible was negative. Hannah, Jacob, David all are tales of the ongoing misery of polygamy.

“Each man [should] have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband” (1 Cor. 7:2).

FYI pinochet: There were 2 galvinizing issues which formed the Republican Party in the 1850s, after the Whig party collapsed:

1-Opposition to slavery.

2-Opposition to polygamy (of Mormons, the only ones practicing it).

Both of course are moral, not economic/financial/business issues. Don’t believe me? LOOK IT UP!

I think one reason why Romney didn’t get the full strength of Republican votes—is that in the base, Republican Christians still simply do not trust Mormons...and, in Romney’s case, along with others (Harry Reid comes to mind) NOT WITHOUT REASON.

If we are looking to Jesus for an example, maybe no one should ever get married. Despite being a Rabbi, and in complete disregard for the requirement at the time that a Rabbi be MARRIED, it is not recorded in approved canon that Jesus ever took a Wife.

Yes, some heretical texts claim he was married. Others claim that "rabbi" in Jesus' context simply meant "teacher" and that said Rabbinical laws did not apply to Him...

Or... Maybe we should all look to our own lives and let Jehovah judge those who fail to live up to His standards...

It isn't up to you and it sure as hell isn't up to the 500+ perverts infesting Congress.

I disagree with you 100 percent. All polygamous are conservative Christians. They homeschool and have farms. They also go to church. There is no way liberals would be involved in this because they would not want to homeschool and run farms as the white Christian polygamous’ do. I am not for polygamy but for you to lie is not cool.

Many people that Yeshua encountered did call him “Rabbi,” but he sternly denounced the term. He said that unless one were more righteous than the Rabbis, he wouldn’t see the kingdom of God.

Naps, you are using the term ‘Christian’ very loosely!

They may call themselves Christians, but they fail to meet his standards.
