Senate rejects border fence

Senators on Tuesday rejected building the 700 miles of double-tier border fencing Congress authorized just seven years ago, with a majority of the Senate saying they didn’t want to delay granting illegal immigrants legal status while the fence was being built.

The 54-39 vote to reject the fence shows the core of the immigration deal is holding. The vote broke mostly along party lines, though five Republicans, including Sen. Marco Rubio and the rest of the bill’s authors, voted against the fence, and two Democrats voted for it.

He buys Rubio's statement that Thune's bill requiring a border fence "lacked specificity" and said he would continue to work with republicans to hammer out a fence plan.

Trouble is we've got about a week to go here and it looks to me like Marco is trying to run out the clock.

The illegals running around in my neighborhood appear to be in a good mood lately. Makes me sick. They’re smiling as they rape me, and my government forces me to tolerate it.

I’ll do whatever I can to have Rubio voted out of office. What a traitor to America.

Forget employer sanctions. Build a barrier. It is simply ridiculous to say it cannot be done. If one fence won’t do it, then build a second 100 yards behind it. And then build a road for patrols in between. Put in cameras. Put in sensors. Put out lots of patrols.

Can’t be done? Israel’s border fence has been extraordinarily successful in keeping out potential infiltrators who are far more determined than mere immigrants. Nor have very many North Koreans crossed into South Korea in the past 50 years.

Agreed. But first they have to address the fact that they simply do not want to.

Generations of American politicians, for whatever reason, saw it in their interest to defend the integrity of the US's borders.

They no longer do, obviously.

I'd like to know why.

they all believe the only way to “reach out to hispanics” is to give them stuff.

They can't believe that. These guys pay people to analyze statistics six ways to Sunday - there is no evidence hispanics will more inclined after this amnesty to vote for republicans in sufficient enough numbers to make a difference. No way.

Its got to be something else.

I dunno. Maybe its something as simple as cowardice.

% of electorate that are hispanic that voted in 2012 =8.4%(11 million)
even winning 70% of their votes, Romney still would have lost.

party of stupid.
