Slaton police came to this woman's house, who wishes to remain anonymous, to arrest her son. But by asking one simple question, she found herself behind bars instead.
"I told him, 'I will release my son to you upon viewing those orders.' Those were exactly my words," The complainant said. "He said, 'This is how you want to play?' He took two steps back, turned around to the officer and said, 'Take her.' They turned me around, handcuffed me, and took me in."
The complainant said she was aware police would be coming to apprehend her 11-year-old son based on a criminal complaint, and that she just wanted to see the warrant. As it turns out, that warrant didn't exist. She spent the night in jail while her son was left at home.
"He told me it was their duty to come pick up my son," She said. "Yet, I had someone stay the night at my house. They never came back that evening, they never came to pick up my son, or do what they told me they were there to do in the beginning."

Welcome to ObaMao’s America: Where every citizen is treated as a terrorist and every terrorist or illegal alien is treated as a citizen.
Yes, it is best that you stay in Colorado. Texas is just full of problems like this story and anyone from Colorado, California, New York and Minnesota would NOT be happy here! That is if you like where you live now. ;)
Oh, you mean like paying Airport Security 3x more and making them Federal Employees all made us safer?
Or, perhaps you mean paying teachers more, and removing any qualifying standards while watching our student's achievement scores plummet?
But, hey ... it's GOTTA work this time. Sure, let's pay unskilled, uneducated policemen more money ... and just magically their quality of performance will skyrocket.
Ever hear of "Magical Thinking"? It would be a whole lot cheaper to buy them some mystical tattoos.
Amen to that!
This isn’t about “sorry”!
This is about teaching the Gestapo there are still CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED RIGHTS!
This is about some arrogant cop having his feelings hurt at having his authority questioned.
What the hell did an 11 yr old do to pose such an imminent threat?
These cops are trained to handle tough guys. My ex brother in law was one of these... So they go around feeling like they’re Chuck Norris, but writing tickets doesn’t satisfy the ego.
So they can’t help but pull out the muscle at times, even if it is on women or children or in situations where it’s completely uncalled for.
They’re like dogs bred for the fight game.
If this crap is to be righted, the individual cop needs to feel the brunt of the consequences of his behavior.
The individuals involved need to be civilly liable for their malfeasance, not the city that they work for.
To this end, each agent of the government should be required to purchase insurance (sound familiar?) based on their individual actuarial risk. Someone that does something like this could be sued, the insurance pay off the plaintiff, and the cop’s premiums for his insurance quickly becomes so expensive that he cannot continue in this occupation.
“They should make an apology as soon as possible, and settle as soon as possible to minimize the damage.”
Part of the settlement must include the criminal prosecution and permanent incarceration of the “officers” involved.
Great points!
It’s funny: we’re not allowed to spank our kids anymore but it’s alright for the police to come into our houses after them to ‘correct’ them...
Boy, did WE screw up as a society!
“McDonald said the Slaton Police Department will issue an apology as long as the mother agrees not to file a lawsuit.”
Let’s see... apology or $5 million lawsuit... hmm... thinking... thinking...
I love how even in the face of police abuses many on FR think the police will be on our side vs the government. Police are nothing more then government union thugs.
The time will come...and very soon...when those actions are punctuated by gunfire and there will be two dead cops on the front stoop.
People will soon stop putting up with home invasions like this when the police start acting like common garden variety home invaders.
Bump.
Slayton is a small town. My bet is the policeman is/will be terminated. And he must have been an idiot to start with.
Local law enforcement in rural Texas is NOT like this. Most of the local LEO’s are friends of the citizens. Most do an excellent job of handling without incident minor and major problems.
What if the complaint was from a neighbor..."He stuck out his finger at my son and said, 'bang, bang'."
Yeah, a real potential desperado there. As you said, every story has two sides so let's hear all of it.
From what I have read, the 11 year old is accused of raping a 5 year old.
Yes, that term is so passé. And even if there was such a thing, our Overlords will tell us who is and who isn't.
With 750,000 sworn officers out there, mistakes are bound to occur. The most egregious now get the most attention, which they should. That is how we correct the situation and educate the public.
I think this is being exposed more, where before the story would be spiked by the MSM, unless it advanced the "progressive" agenda.
For far too long, the "progressives" have fostered an us vs. them attitude among the police.
they didn’t have a warrant to take her kid
hmmm, sounds like she may have prevented a child abduction.
outside authorities ought to look into these cops, and start looking into cold case files
Sorry, but it doesn't work that way.
If an apology is warranted, issue it. Discipline the people that are responsible for this. Compensate the woman for her expenses. Drop the charges and expunge her record. Document your changes in policy to make sure this doesn't happen again.
If you do all this, then maybe she won't sue you. But, that's her decision to make, not yours.
