Thousands and Thousands of Associated Press Phone Calls Monitored by DOJ

The Associated Press scandal just keeps getting worse, and we haven't even started yet. AP CEO Gary Pruitt informed staffers Wednesday that the Department of Justice monitored, not one, not twenty, but "thousands and thousands" of phone calls made by reporters and editors.

Associated Press president and chief executive Gary Pruitt told staff at a Wednesday town hall meeting that the phone records obtained by the government included "thousands and thousands" of calls in and out of the news organization, according to a staffer who attended.

Pruitt said Wednesday that the Obama administration acted as "judge, jury and executioner" in secretly obtaining the news organization's records, a criticism he also leveled in a recent appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation."

During the town hall, Pruitt reiterated that the AP did not report on a CIA-thwarted terrorist plot in May 2012 out of national security concerns until sources indicated the Obama administration was going to announce it publicly.

That’s not a surprise, is it? We know they got records for about 100 phone lines, which for a news organization would generate to “thousands of calls” in no time at all.

Does “monitored” mean “listened to” as in “wiretapped”?

Or does “monitored” mean “looked at the log” with “From Phone”, “To Phone”, “Call Began”, and “Call Ended” statistics only?

Statistics are bad enough. Listening into the conversation is a huge worse step.

So there are tapes with Sen. Schumer talking to reporters?
And Sen. Reid talking to reporters?
And Sen. Graham talking to reporters?
All these tapes should be made public and see the light of day and the innocent people who were unaware that they were being taped should be notified.
We need this transparency.
And no matter how hard the scrubbing is, with this kind of information, it will be available to someone, somewhere.
The Obama Tapes should be made into a book or movie.

I had understood before that the DOJ had phone records before, which would be a listing of calls made. Interesting they use the word monitored here. That would imply that they actually listened to the calls. Much more damning IMO. Patriot Act at work...
