An FBI incident review team from Washington, D.C., is in Orlando today, a day after a Russian man who knew Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was shot dead by an agent.
Federal and Central Florida law enforcement agencies are still collecting and processing evidence from the shooting scene at a condominium complex on Peregrine Avenue, near Kirkman Road and Universal Orlando, where Ibragim Todashev was shot early Wednesday.
Initially, FBI officials said Todashev, 27, became violent and lunged at an agent with a knife while he was being questioned about Tsarnaev and an unsolved 2011 triple murder in the Boston suburb of Waltham. The agent, acting on an "imminent threat," then shot Todashev, they said.
However, later in the day, some of those officials had backed off that preliminary account, and it's no longer clear what happened in the moments before the fatal shooting, The Associated Press reported.

Frankly, that one never made sense. If you have a subject secured well enough that he is about to sign a confession, what is he doing with a knife?

Of course, this happened before the President said yesterday that he was going to start following the law, more or less, when he gets ‘round to it. So this one doesn’t countsies...

I think they were probably careless because he appeared to be cooperating and he grabbed somebody’s gun or at least attempted to do so and was shot by one of them. The article mentions two shots.
He was an MMA specialist with a quick temper and it sounds to me as if they might have underestimated him. Also, they were interviewing him at home, on his own turf, which is never a good idea.
Part of the reason for the secrecy is no doubt to avoid tipping off the local Chechens so that they can hide their jihadis, but I wonder if another part isn’t perhaps a local FBI decision to avoid tipping off headquarters (meaning Holder). He has no intention of letting the Boston bombings be thoroughly investigated and has done everything possible to protect the surviving terrorist.

I don't know. But how do you have a preliminary story that the man lunged at an agent with a knife but later on, the story is changed?
Did he lunge with a knife or not?
If he did, why are they changing their story now?
If he didn't, why did they say he did?
