There will be a court battle over this. I hope the committee didn’t lose it’s right to press her by excusing her. I know he said it was subject to recall, we will see.

I know she asserted her innocence in her statement, and that could be viewed as a waiver of her right on the whole topic area.
However, when you are testifying, it’s possible to assert the right as soon as you realize the questioning might incriminate you. So even if a judge orders her to testify, it’s possible she still can assert the right again at some point.
You can be sure this all will be litigated. Lots of delays.

Congress has a constitutional oversight role. They can call any federal employee to testify whenever and however many times that want.

Which will help keep it in the news, IMO, and that’s good.

I think she waived her fifth amendment right when she made a statement that she had done nothing wrong. May turn out her attorney gave her bad advice. We'll see. Hope that she is made to come back.

I think you can invoke it at any time but you cannot selectively do so. Once you invoke it, you shouldn’t answer anything related.

Is this going to happen tonight or tomorrow? Anyone know?
To: Williams
Perhaps that was the point-a attorney like she has would not make such an obivious error. It seems calculated knowing it will be in the courts. We shall see.

Except that being in contempt of Congress has very little meaning if the DOJ won’t prosecute.

Well, if recent history is any indication, she’ll still refuse to answer (and maybe even show up), be deemed in contempt of Congress, and that will be the end of it.
She doesn’t have much to fear when the enforcer of any penalty against her is Eric Holder.

Regarding her attorney, I have to consider that these democrats always get attorneys provided one way or another by the party. So he should have told her to just assert the right and that’s it. But of course the democrat politicians didn’t want that blanket refusal to testify, they wanted her to say something self serving first.

I’d make sure she was on camera,
asserting it over and over and over again
to very incriminating questions.
