One recent recommendation by the National Transportation Safety Board was to reduce states drunken-driving threshold from .08 to .05 blood alcohol content. What do you think?
Thats way too strict. 42%
Sounds good to me. 35%
The standard should be zero. 21%
This has nothing to do with lowering DUI deaths. This has everything to do with raising revenues and making more people criminals.
The term “Way” is a bit over the top.
They also split the vote with “Zero” and “Fine with me”
Done.
Used to have a job which involved (in part) reviewing photos of major traffic collisions. Also had a chance to work with one of the most recognized BA experts in SoCal.
It doesn't take very much booze before people are too impaired to drive properly.
Only exception is hard core alkies who have built up tolerance — but they usually are the ones with exceptionally high BA levels when they kill someone.
Here’s something that I’ve wondered about for a very long time...
Have any studies been done regarding the number of accidents caused by impaired drivers, corelated to the BAC?
When I mean is how many accidents are caused by people with a BAC of say, 0.2 vs 0.15 vs 0.1 vs 0.08...
The simple question I have is how will effectively legislating a “zero tolerance” BAC make any difference for someone who gets rip-roaring drunk and gets into an accident?
However, by instituting a zero tolerance BAC, what will this do to the restuarant/bar industry? How many people in the hospitality industries would lose their jobs and how many businesses might have to close down?
Mark
“but they usually are the ones with exceptionally high BA levels when they kill someone”
And usually walked away with just a scratch.
I read some stats on this and it seems that the MADDs and others
consider it a “death averted” every time a DUI arrest is made.
Which is a steaming load of crap.
Can they show us any evidence lowering from .10 to .08 has made any difference?
More people are drinking because of the core problems of the country starting with the massive Obama failure, and thus now the vultures circling are growing in numbers and need more road kill, so they drop the BAC level, get billions more in revenues.
especially they need more money to buy more ammo that is more limited and expensive.
Its like a tower of legos.
How many times does the wrong guy get the bad mark??
They also use the "alcohol related" statistic to skew the evidence too. Drunk passenger and sober driver = alcohol related.
WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!
Follow the money.
Lawyers cash in, law enforcement cashes in, courts cash in. Lawyers give money to the democrats who push laws like this.
Everyone on the left wins!
(the guy going to jail over 1 beer.. well.. not so much)
Our City just admitted they can't even monitor what they have. Huge money maker. Stops accidents?? Ridiculous...these are all in 30 MPH zones...and that's a max cuz there is a light every 800 feet.
Boy am I gonna step in it...
Years ago a retired Officer of the Law ( Captain if my memory is corect) wrote Car and Driver ( aka when Brock Yates was in charge) and said this all gained traction when the Feds offered matching funds and that esentially it was a power grab and to build departments etc. Yates had the cohones to print it.
Since then I have talked to Bar - Resturant owner that told me I can survive Obamacare, but I can't survive .06 and MADD, and it will drive people to private parties and to do even stupider things....
It is too un PC to talk about this and I just did, i.e. their are other ways to think about this subject matter and other opinions...
The lower the legal limit the more limited freedom becomes.
Nonsense. Insurance studies have shown beyond any doubt that enforcement of BAC levels below 0.12% have no measurable impact in fatal or serious injury traffic accidents.
If you are drinking and driving you are the bad guy regardless. Stay home or get a ride.
I say we accelerate the google self driving car and make it the norm.
Imagine a world where...
I agree with this. I think a 35% BA should be just about right.
Study after study after study has shown that drivers with low amounts of alcohol (<0.12%) are no more likely to get in a traffic accident than drivers with NO alcohol in their system.
