SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A citizen with a gun stopped a knife wielding man as he began stabbing people Thursday evening at the downtown Salt Lake City Smith's store.
Police say the suspect purchased a knife inside the store and then turned it into a weapon. Smith's employee Dorothy Espinoza says, "He pulled it out and stood outside the Smiths in the foyer. And just started stabbing people and yelling you killed my people. You killed my people."
Espinoza says, the knife wielding man seriously injured two people. "There is blood all over. One got stabbed in the stomach and got stabbed in the head and held his hands and got stabbed all over the arms."
Then, before the suspect could find another victim - a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. "A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith's grabbed him."
By the time officers arrived the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers. Police had high praise for gun carrying man who ended the hysteria. Lt. Brian Purvis said, "This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He was definitely in the right place at the right time."
Dozens of other shoppers, who too could have become victims, are also thankful for the gun carrying man. And many, like Danylle Julian, are still in shock from the experience. "Scary actually. Really scary. Five minutes before I walk out to my car. It could have been me."
Police say right now they have no idea what caused the suspect to go on the dangerous rampage. (We will update as soon as we learn new information.)
So far, police have not released the names of the suspect, the victims or the man who pulled the gun.
My people?
Perhaps the suspect’s name will give us a possible meaning.
This story is all over the national news ........ oh, wait, it isn’t.
Bad timing? Waited too long between “Drop it or” and “I’ll shoot”.
Agreed...if you have a cause people should get what it is.
Ok, I did laugh though, he actually bought the knife first.
I wonder if this guy is a muslim. Yelling “you killed my people” makes me wonder if he was upset about Tsarnaev. Anytime they don’t mention the suspects name makes me suspicious.
I don’t think his name is J. Whittington Dodsworth IV.
;^)
anyone else beginning to sense a pattern here ? < spit >
PING
“Gun carrying man ends stabbing spree at Salt Lake grocery store”
Really needs a hyphen: Gun-carrying . . .
Thought a gun was carrying a man . . . I knew guns were dangerous, but not a much as a gun that was carrying a man. (I’m a stickler)
Why was he on a stabbing spree if he had a gun? Is that like a shopping spree where you get to keep everything you stab?
I think that gun deserves a medal (but it really should stop carrying people around).

Sudden Jihad Syndrome
Nothing to see here...move along...
Or the man with the gun was doing the stabbing. Poor writing all around.
Another thing from this story is that what we all thought of the suspect is crawling all over our country. Any time, anything will just make them snap.
The story is a year old.

SALT LAKE CITY Police and gun advocates are lauding a concealed weapons permit holder who subdued a man who had stabbed two peopleapparently at randomin the parking lot of a downtown grocery store.
Police said the suspect, a career criminal named Kiet Than Ly, walked into the Smiths Marketplace at 455 East and 500 South and purchased a knife.
The individual, for reasons that we dont know, went into the Smiths and bought a knife, came outside and attacked at least two people, said Salt Lake City Police Lt. Brian Purvis.
Listening to UK radio, I have noticed people where guns are banned aren’t dying less, they are just being stabbed or burned.
Local report uses network report ABC style book. No identification if offender is one of the protected species.
Won’t use link but did ABC 4 actually lead story with defence of 2nd amendment ? Or did they lead with citizen participation and then on 2nd line mention gun?
The medis is so full of it it’s sickening.
“Police say right now they have no idea what caused the suspect to go on the dangerous rampage. (We will update as soon as we learn new information.)”
Do we need a reason? Dude is a whack-job. Nuff said!
