Last reports indicated video of a suspect planting a device was obtained, but there is no ID on the suspect.
If they have no ID on the suspect, would not showing the video to the public possibly reveal who the suspect is? Would friends, family, acquaintances, co-workers or possibly his neighbors be able to ID the suspect?
It's already been announced world wide the video was obtained at one of the bomb sites in front of a retail shop. So it would not seem likely the investigation would be compromised, since the suspect himself would already know they had video of the devise being planted at the bomb site.
If the video was aired, wouldn't it be possible someone out there would be able to identify the suspect?
How could the investigation be compromised at this point, if airing the video could possibly help or assist in identifying the suspect/suspects before they could possible plant more devices?

It happens. It’s not a CSI world, all crimes do not get solved. Lucky breaks are the meat and potatoes of a successful criminal investigation, getting a good picture, too much bragging, second thoughts from a co-conspirator. I always remember that one serial killer in the NJ area, early 90s, nobody even realized they had a serial killer (always hookers, spread out, none of the bodies found), guys got a body in the back of his truck heading to a dumping ground, gets pulled over for speeding, steps out of the truck, says “I knew you’d catch me some day”, cop asks WTH, guy pulls the tarp back. It’s all about getting lucky.
You are right. The FBI loves to use the media when investigating. They will sometimes throw out false statements and distractions in one direction, while watching the other direction for a little bit of stirring.

I have to tell you....all those pics that someone posted earlier today with all the suspicious guys with backpacks...the ME guys are well, ME guys....they always look suspicious...but that one taller white guy with the beard....he looked a bit deranged to me...

If this is who they’re after that could be why the backtracking. They could be holding out for more participants.
did they say not in custody or not arrested? if they are going for enemy combatent, maybe “arresting” is not legally the correct choice.
I think that photo clears those two guys. The bombs went off at 4:09 race time. 4:11 is post-bombing and they still have their backpacks.
the authorities are eager to have the stage to themselves so they can spend 30” congratulating one another after an arrest is made....they don’t want no stinking citiens mucking up their parade...

Ah, i got such a brief look at it I missed all the important stuff. It was pulled right after I looked at the picture and refreshed the screen. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
On another thread, I posted a closeup of the guy on the right in the red box. The overwhelming opinion was that he and the guy next to him are cops (similar dress, light-colored cargo pants). One person speculated that his black backpack contains a collapsible SMG. However, the strap on the backpack resembles the one in the FBI photo of the remains of the bomb backpack.

I do too. I am afraid they don’t have a clue where the culprits are, or who they are. For all we know, they could be back in whatever hellhole they came from by now.

To what? The perp is watching the news too. Showing him the video may inform him of ways to avoid getting caught.
I’m reminded of an attempt to take down the Munich kidnappers/terrorists. A secret armed raid was planned and being executed - until someone realized TV cameras were broadcasting the details, and the perps were watching TV too.
Maybe the video isn’t actually that good and there’s no way they could get an ID from it.

There is an ounce of logic in this possibility but there is a pound in the very likely possibly that one or many photos and videos exist that would allow an ID. The FBI has a chance to get those photos and video if they release their photos.
And, BTW, the Fox News reporter who saw the photos stated that they were very clear.
