Former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr to run for Congress
The Washington Times ^ | 3-29-13 | Cheryl K. Chumley

Former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr, an outspoken conservative who lost his seat more than a decade ago, thinks the time is right for a new run at political office. He announced a campaign for the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Phil Gingrey, who’s running for Senate.

Roll Call reports that Mr. Barr has already established a campaign team and has reached out to Capitol Hill politicians — including House leadership — for support.

I'd forgotten this chump had rejoined the Republican party. "Outspoken conservative", yeah, at one point he was.

He was the author of DOMA but now he stands for repealing it. At least that's the last I heard, this guy flip flops more than John Kerry at the beach.

With Phil Gingrey in the Senate race, Barr is looking to return to the House.

And the race is on.......

snip
Among the other potential candidates, state House Majority Whip Edward Lindsey is expected to join the race in a couple of weeks. He sent a note to supporters Wednesday updating them on his plans.

Barr has hired Jeff Breedlove, who has worked with Barr for more than 20 years, as campaign manager. He also hired media strategist Fred Davis, pollster Kellyanne Conway and a three-person finance team to handle local, direct mail and online fundraising.

Just another GOPe turd jumping back in the punchbowl. Why can’t we succeed in getting some new people into these open offices? The “musical chairs” needs to stop.

Bob used to be my Congressman in District 7 and he was great for awhile but then he got a little too loony for most of us so we voted him out and elected John Linder.

Personally I think Phil Gingrey is making a mistake giving up that seat as I am not about to vote for him for Saxby’s senate seat. Paul Broun is running and he is the most conservative. Don’t believe all the smear that is coming on him for his religious beliefs. He will stand with Rand, Cruz, Lee etc.

He USED to be one of my favorite politicians.

Now, Boob Barf is dead to me since he spent the 2008 campaign renouncing everything decent he had done in Congress in order to get the Libertarian nomination. He spent his time on the campaign trail AND after the election trashing Sarah Palin, cozying up to Al Gore's global warming scam (which wasn't even "libertarian", let alone conservative!), denouncing the DOMA law he helped enact, defending Blago, applauding Obama's pledge to close Gitmo and so on.

I could care less if he wants to come crawling back to the GOP now and say "oops" for all the damage he did. The genie is already out of the bottle.

Hope you had fun bashing the people who gave you a political career and selling your soul to the ones who worked to remove you from Congress. We'll be sure to return the favor. Screw you, Bob.

This Benedict Arnold former conservative headed straight for a cushy job with the leftist, anti-America ACLU the minute he was ousted from his congressional seat.

He must be primaried. He's a sly-boots who's been politically dead....and who must not be allowed to return to life.

Who we need to run in Georgia is...Neal Boortz.

If Boortz ran, the National Right to Life would go to DEF CON 1 on him and throw all their resources into sinking his campaign.

Linder was already there serving with him, Linder’s old district number was the 11th (and before 1996 it was the 4th when he swapped numbers with Cynthia McKinney for some reason), redistricting in 2002 controlled by the rats put Barr’s home into Linder’s district and made most of Barr’s district into a less Republican seat they expected to win. Barr chose to run against Linder in the new safe Republican 7th rather than in the new competitive 11th (which was mostly Barr’s old 7th) I think I have that right.

Barr lost to Linder in the primary while Gingery went on to hold the 11th for the GOP, Barr likely could have held it himself if the had run there.

Ironically libertarian Neal Boortz backed Linder over pre-libertrian Barr. He really hated Barr cause of the drug war and backed Linder’s fairtax proposal.

Barr is a loon. He used to be o.k., but then he started palling around with the crazy wing of the Libertarian Party and the ACLU.

Don't vote for him.

NO!

As in, no we won’t be fooled by this fraud who is to the left and north of Ron Paul on issues.

Sorry Bob. Go back to the Libertarian Party.

I can’t even imagine why this loser would even think of running—or who his supporters would be right now.

Barr delivered 16 Electoral Votes to Zero in 2008 (Indiana & North Carolina). His trying to sneak back into Congress is something that needs to be stopped.

You meant to say 26 EVs (15 from NC and 11 from IN). Actually, I’m not sure McCain/Palin would have carried IN even had Barr not run as a Libertarian, but it really doesn’t matter to me, since it ‘s the thought that counts.

He was the author of DOMA but now he stands for repealing it.

He is a lawyer, it is what they do best, argue both sides of the issue and agree with the side that pays the most.
