Feds withhold mineral royalties to states, citing sequester (full-blown Soviet-style)

The Obama administration sparked outrage when it announced on Monday that it was withholding $110 million mineral royalty payments that are owed to states and counties due to the sequestration.

“The Budget Control Act of 2011, passed by Congress, mandates across-the-board, automatic 5.1 percent sequester reductions,” said Office of Natural Resources Revenue spokesman Patrick Etchart. “By law, revenue payments to states are not exempt from the sequester. Cumulatively, approximately $110 million will be withheld from states and counties where energy production occurs on federal lands during the remainder of the current fiscal year.”

Fine, the states could just withhold future payments to the feds, up to the limit of the withheld royalty payments.

That exactly what they should do. Those royalty monies are coming in at the same rate and should not be stopped going to the states.

Every thread about that communist this evening, I’ve said, impeachment. If that doesn’t happen, I’ve said we are the Soviet Union under Lenin/Stalin. Someone has to stop him.

Yep, and the federal gas tax is the perfect place to start. The states collect it and pass on to the feds, so perhaps that courtesy should be "sequestered" for a while...

Just tell all gas stations they must pay the federal tax on gasoline to the state first. Each state will use the money to offset any reductions in revenue due to the sequester.

This is so BS. This is revenue paid in for that specific purpose.

Our county also gets PILT, Payment in Lieu of Taxes, because we have so much federal land in our county and they don’t pay property taxes. If they don’t pay then the county should put those lands up for tax auction.

The states could just “pass gas” tax to their treasuries and keep this “Gas Tax Change”. That’s one “Change” Obama never thought of.

I like that. Let the federal govt sue the states for recovery. Then the states could countersue and tie their red asses up in court for years. File it in the slowest “federal snail court” in the country.

Oh the pleasure of that thought.

Fight fire with fire.

I just watched the movie Atlas Shrugged (Part 1) on Netflix a few nights ago. They passed a law in a day or something to tax Colorado way more (oil production) in order to fund less fortunate states.

One of the reasons that Germany came out of the Depression is because it invaded other countries and took/developed their natural resources. Just think what would happen if the states invaded the Federal lands within their borders and started developing them! (Reasonable development of course - where tourism, fishing, hunting could coexist with mineral resource development, timber, etc.)

One must keep in mind that the Sequester is a two percent cut in the rate of increase, leaving 98 percent of the annual increase to be spent as the politicians seen fit.

In this case, it means making things as bad as politically plausible for as many as possible, while using some of the 98 percent for favored projects like helping muslims rise above their impoverished life style imposed by evil Colonial powers like the US.

Just saying ...
