New video has emerged of police interviewing teenagers who saw the Steubenville rape victim getting more and more drunk before she was attacked, ABC News reports. "I could tell that she was gradually getting more drunk and worse throughout the night,” said 16-year-old Farrah Marcino. “Just, like, that she couldn’t, like, she didn’t walk." Anthony Craig, 18, described her as "a mess" and said she "wasn't responding."
But no one stopped her from leaving the party with her convicted rapists, Trent Mays and Ma'Lik Richmond—even though, Craig said, she was passed out and carried away. "She wanted to go with Trent," he said. "Like, we just kept trying to tell her: ‘You don’t want to do this. You don’t want to go with them.' I just let her do what she want[ed], which I understand was wrong." Ohio's district attorney seems to agree: He's convening a grand jury to investigate whether charges can be filed against teens who failed to report the attack.
Will they really charge teenagers who didn't do more to stop this rape?
Sometimes you have to make an example out of someone, so others will know where there responsibility lies. A grand jury investigation is fine with me. Give them a good scare & hope it gets out in their social media.

No. The reason noone did anything is because this is typical. I went to parties when I was a teen. This same thing is happening in every city and small town in American every Friday and Saturday night. Girls much younger than 16 are being treated this way. Just not put on twitter.
To do something would be judgmental - and the golden rule for the previous 25 years is, ‘Don’t judge!’ Nor did the kids have someone telling them what to do - they lack initiative and their moral compass has been passed over a magnet about a dozen time.
How about holding drunken people responsible for getting drunk?
Personally, had that been my daughter, no matter *HOW* drunk she got, what she said or did... there would be a few shallow graves and some rubble where the house was and the football stadium was.
Rapists should die. slowly. No excuses, no mitigating circumstances, no mercy.
I don’t see in this story where they did anything wrong. Sounds like she wanted to go with them. Are the other teenagers to assume she was babout to get raped? I haven’t followed this story that closely, so please let me know if I am missing something here. Are the kids responsible for babysitting another kid? This isn’t the mentality I want my son growing up in.
Really? I have two sons. When they get older, I certainly hope they will step up and do their best to disallow a passed-out drunk girl from getting carried away by drunken assholes with history of this sort of thing.
(Rather, I hope they aren’t even near these types of parties, but if they are, I want them to do the right thing. And that means stepping in.)
I am not sure, but I think there has been a suggestion that a date rape drug was used. She could have sipped a beer and suddenly been far drunker than you or I ever have been.
I do think that one problem is that our culture (and its been this way forever) allows kids to go to parties and make mistakes with alcohol, and it's just "funny" it's just "having a good time". People see a girl being carried out of a building and it's just "Cool! She got wasted!"
With a different culture, more people would step up and say, "Look, either she doesn't know how to drink and she just flat-out overdid it, or else you slipped her something. Either way, it's not right for you to carry her over to your place. You need to stop right where you are."
It would be nice if kids looked out for each other. But that's not cool.
You’re right. At my high school, this would not have been strange. Those who disapproved didn’t have anyone who’d listen to them. These guys in Steubenville are among many who have taken advantage of a drunk girl.
But won’t that hurt their self-esteem???
From these two paragraphs there is nothing that crosses a legal threshold however there are several accounts of other teens who actually witnessed the rape/assualt. Apparently there is a video of a teen joking that the girl must be dead because (paraphrasing) no one could sleep through anal sodomy.
Sixteen year olds are not held accountable because too many are irresponsible by virtue of age.
I haven’t followed closely, but I wonder who supplied the booze because these teens were not old enough to buy it without help from an adult.
I do not believe charges should be filed on these other kids, except if they were also boozing illegally.
I imagine some of those girls may think twice about ever getting in the position the victim was in.
We do, if they do something that hurts another - like drunk driving that results in an accident.
The girl was certainly stupid to get drunk. That doesn’t excuse the boys who raped her or her friends who didn’t try to intervene. All are culpable, & it’s a tragedy for everyone concerned.
I sent her into the bathroom because it was going to be a long ride home.
She came out of the bathroom with a new friend. “I am really worried about her she is too drunk. I've been in that situation before and I just wish someone had helped me.”
I said “Yes, I'm taking her home.”

Suddenly it dawned on me that it was ME she was worried about! I'm holding up a sloshy hot blond and saying “I'm going to take her home!!!!!”.
I laughed and said “I'm taking her to HER home, she is my wife” - and I showed the rings.
She laughed and I thanked her for her concern.
And if they don’t they belong in jail because he was supposed to know the girl was going to be taken somewhere and raped?
That’s awesome!
That’s different if someone actually witnessed the rape. That is aiding and abetting a felony.
