New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Sunday: Sometimes government does know best. And in those cases, Americans should just cede their rights.
“I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom,” Mr. Bloomberg said, during an appearance on NBC. He made the statement during discussion of his soda ban — just shot down by the courts — and insistence that his fight to control sugary drink portion sizes in the city would go forth.

I predict they will eventually tire of his nannying. Guys like this usually end up over-reaching and even the welfare-type will get their fill of him.
Aren’t there any lamp posts left in NYC?
I'll mention two things:
(1) NYC is a crazy quilt of ethnic and special interests - coalitions of constituencies win elections, not winning personalities.
(2) Bloomberg has ripped his mask off in his third term because there will be no fourth. And people are not happy about it and are letting him know.

The jerk claims he’s not running again. He wants to get involved with newspapers and political activism.
From regulating salt in foods, to soda bottle size, to formula milk - he’s a NAZI.
You can see how puffed up with indignation he is when he delivers one of his tirades from behind a podium - rocking back and forth and ranting. Someday he’s liable to blow up with indignation and self-importance - right there on the podium.
As usual I ask myself, “And what are we doing about this situation?”
So if you think “utter lack of pushback” is an odd way to see it, please encourage me by giving an example of pushback, other than grumbling, whining and keyboarding.
If you were a hard working German or Finn, would you want your money to go for a carte blanche bail out of people who worked 30 hour weeks and expected to retire at fifty?
Don’t forget the city council had to change their own term limit law to let him run a third time.

Actually more proof that Bloomie does not care a whit about the Bill of Rights.

We need to start marching on Government buildings and hanging politicians and Bloomy is a good place to start!

The whole “tough New Yorker” cliche is a sham. These people are babies if they’ve allowed this little control freak to run their lives.
The city council was bribed to do so (it enabled its members to run for more terms as well), it caused a significant controversy and fueled the Liu candidacy. New Yorkers went to the courts to have it overturned, then when they were denied they filed to have a referendum on the issue and when that was denied they brought it to the state legislature, where the GOP let it die in committee.
Again, a lot of posters here seem to do very little homework when it comes to badmouthing NYC.

NYC politics are broken and Bloomberg has spent hundreds of millions to exploit the holes in the system.
If you hadn't noticed, the guy gets booed at every public event that it isn't a fundraiser he's hosting.
