Ma'lik Richmond, center, reacts as the verdict for his and Trent Mays' rape trial is delivered. (Reuters)
Inside a small Steubenville, Ohio, courtroom filled with sobbing and exhausting emotion, Judge Thomas Lipps found Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond guilty Sunday of raping an intoxicated 16-year-old girl. Lipps sentenced both defendants to a minimum of one year in a youth correctional institute with the determination for a longer sentence coming from child-service experts.
Mays received an additional year for transmission of nude photos, to be served after his rape sentence is completed. Mays and Richmond also will have to register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives.
"It provides a great incentive to do well," said Lipps, who could have ordered Mays and Richmond to remain behind bars until they turned 21.

We treat small-ball athletes as royalty. It happens in a lot of places where athletes get away with murder. Ditto anyone who passes as a celebrity.
They may be on the receiving end in jail. Don’t drop the soap.
Yeah, so much for the “sisterhood”....
It was known as "Friday Night".
I guess the 34 year-old Portugese neighbor who took me into her bed when I was 16 in 1968 would still be in prison under today's standards.
Sheesh.
Maybe they could share a cell with Jerry Sandusky.
I read somewhere that there are up to 25 COACHES who knew about the rape and didn’t bother reporting it.
Really? You raped and took pictures of passed out drunk girls when you were 16 while your friends hooted and hollered? That was your typical Friday night?
Which begs the question (and I have no doubt what you say is true..), what High school football team needs 25 coaches!!!
Take a look at the Steubenville Football web site (run by adults) http://www.rollredroll.com/football.htm
Do you get the distinct impression that some adults in that town really need to get a life?
Maybe getting rid of the Pledge of Allegiance, the Ten Commandments and prayer in school wasn’t such a good idea after all.
That’s a geographic area that has been in economic decline for 40 plus years. Not sure if fracking has helped them out or not.
I was thinking the very same thing.
All those boys could have used a huge dose of dad from the time they were born.
I would also add the parents where the party(s) were held. In today's litigious society what parent in their right mind allows alcohol to be served to minors?

Sheesh. “
If some neighbor thing did that to one of my 16 year old sons I’d be LIVID.
Bull! I'm 65 and "this sort of thing" DID NOT HAPPEN when I was in high school. Anyone that tried it would have been beaten into next week. I will follow the rules here and not tell you what I think of you for trying (lying) to defend the trash youth that does sh*t like this.

Dear Penthouse,
You probably won’t believe this...
Thank you. I was shocked when I read that post.
Well we know for a fact that there were a minimum of 6 parents that did a lousy job of raising their kids.
I’d be willing to speculate she was drugged. There’s a photo of two boys handling this girl like a sack of cement.
I personally think she was beyond “passed out”.
I’m thinking rohypnol.
Seems like nobody is innocent in this case. Not one person stepped up to do what is right. Not the kids, not the adults.
The assumption that people are mere animals and that “everybody is doing it” could easily lead an unthinking person to presume that by just being in that situation this girl was looking to be had. If the guys hadn’t taken pictures and bragged, she wouldn’t even have known it happened. It would have been just the same old usual kids acting like animals while everybody laughs and thinks it’s no big deal. Including the sex ed teachers, coaches, parents, Hollywood, etc.
The fact is that if you turn off a person’s conscience you make them into a mere animal for a time, and you’re going to get animal behavior. And all those elements (sex ed teachers, coaches, parents, Hollywood, politicians, etc) have been turning off not only these kids’ consciences but the whole society’s conscience - saying this is all human beings (including our kids) are capable of so we should just make sure they can do these behaviors “safely”. Drugs and alcohol just finish the conscience-disabling.
But there is no way to “safely” engage in this garbage - either the intoxication or the sex. It always takes a toll, even if that toll is just (/s) to turn a human being into an animal, void of human compassion, dignity, and perception of what is sacred.
Abortion advocates tell us that there aren’t any victims in abortion. Just kill the defenseless and everything is all better. How does that differ from the mentality of drunk boys thinking that if a girl is passed-out-drunk and defenseless, just do what you want and everything is fine? The aborted baby doesn’t know what happened to it (”isn’t sentient”, according to the arguments) and neither did this girl (she wasn’t “sentient” at the time either), so no harm done to either, if you believe the “logic” of the abortion advocates. Like Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Sandra Fluke, etc...
What we have in this episode is a glimpse into the DEPRAVITY of all the lies our culture has accepted. There is no moral difference between Nancy Pelosi and these 2 boys, except that these boys did it for fun because the society was going to give them a pass (they thought) and Nancy Pelosi does it for power, while the society gives her a pass.
This case is a mirror for our society to see itself as it really is, in all its ugly hypocrisy and depravity. Unfortunately, I don’t think the people who have shaped this society to be this way will ever see this as their own handiwork.
