What with the recent changes to various regulatory aspects regarding the lives of American citizens I was expecting a bit of backlash against President Obama, but I certainly didn’t see this coming.
President Barack Obamas approval rating in New York fell precipitously in the past month, according to a poll released Monday, and three-fifths of the states registered voters now believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.
Obamas approval rating remains high in New York, at 56 percent, with 41 percent disapproving, according to the Siena College poll.
But the presidents approval rating was at 66 percent last month, with only 32 percent disapproval so the change is a net 19 point decline.
President Obamas favorability rating dropped significantly this month, Siena pollster Steven Greenberg said.
Yes, 56% is still nothing to sneeze at, but this is a state where Obama won 63.33% of the vote to Mitt Romney’s 35.19% in 2012, and that wasn’t a particularly high turnout cycle. At other times he’s been much closer to 70. What does Siena attribute it to? New Yorkers feel that the country is on the wrong track by a margin of 60 to 32. But I suspect there’s something more to the story. At the same time, Andrew Cuomo has dipped to 64% when he was at 67-29 last month and in the seventies last year. What’s the connection?
My guess is that the liberal wing has overplayed its hand in the Empire state, sending even borderline supporters upstate heading for the exits. Even in a decidedly liberal state, Cuomo has been on the Obama bandwagon, but putting it on steroids. Cuomo signed a gun control bill which is becoming increasingly unpopular as people find out more about it. He also passed an abortion bill which even had nominally pro-choice voters asking what the heck was going on. (The procedure can be performed by people who aren’t doctors???)
This is a formula for opportunity for the GOP if they play their cards right. No, I don’t expect New York to suddenly turn red in 2016, but there will be a lot of congressional districts – as well as state Senate and assembly seats – where the worm may turn back a bit. When you grab for too much at one time you lose the middle, and that’s what I think is happening here right now.
Oh please, they’d still vote for him, anyway.
Like it matters.
So? What if his “approval” drops to -110%? Then what?
This is how it is for a cult of personality. When substance no longer is a concern, then the cult becomes quite fickle.
Agreed. They will vote for him again, no matter what.
I suspect they would vote for Obama again even if NYC gets hit with a terrorist dirty bomb during the ill-conceived trial of Bin Laden’s son-in-law.
My guesses:
1) It was too high to begin with
2) The tax extension fight was great for him, but the Sequester was not the same as he was hoping it was.
His cutting off WH tours is too obvious.
“Oh please, they’d still vote for him, anyway.”
Absolutely.
It’s amazing how many of them will remain loyal no matter what he and the Progressives do. They will be in love, forever.
IMHO
We gotta remember this, no matter how unpopular and how bad a Democrat’s performance in office is, the mentality of a liberal city or state is always — “The other side will always be worse.”
Better choose the devil we know.
CASE IN POINT: Detroit.
Prepare yourselves for another crisis to take advantage of. They cannot let his legacy be tarnished.
States like NY and CA permanently conquered territory. They will vote for any democrat over any non-democrat, unless the non-democrat is further left. Those states’ electoral votes are forevermore off-limits to GOPers.
I'm sure I'd go stark raving mad surrounded by that much stupid. I can barely stand being in a place where those numbers are reversed.
There you go. From the above posts and some of those
below we see that most of us know Obama voters inside
and out. Had Obama dropped TO 10% instead of a 10%
drop a lot of us would still give him an 85% chance
of winning an election. His voters are the Walking
Deadocrats and we’re not allowed to whack ‘em
in the head w/Louisville Sluggers.....not yet.
I’d wager gun control factors in this slide as well. I believe Cuomo is at his lowest approval rating as well.
Might not his ratings affect how many Dem Congressmen & Senators vote for his policies? He is a lame duck now. Chances are good he will have worse 2nd term than 1st.
What difference does it make now!!!!! Spoken by none other than the less than great former senator from the less than great state of NY.
All he wants to do now is to keep getting his stuff through for two years when he hopes to capture the house and then put the hammer to floor on the country’s joy ride to hell.
Which is why secession and CW2 are inevitable.
He’s not liberal enough.
