I will be losing 1 day a week with no pay(16 hours per a 2 week pay period).
I calculated $326 per pay day for me, GRRRRR!
Yup.... and you can look into signing up for SNAP and all the other Washington goodies - which by the way, aren’t touched by the sequester.
Sorry to hear that and I know it sucks. It appears you know that you are simply being used as a pawn.
Yep pretty much the same for me.
If O does like Clinton, Federal Employees will ultimately get paid for the time they don’t have to report to work - won’t be counted against vacation or anything (it would be interesting to see if employees that were scheduled for vacations during the Clinton shutdown actually got that vacation time back - imagine so).
Both of you do realize that when all is said and done, that these furloughs will be ‘forgiven’ and you will be paid retroactively, don’t you.....at least that’s what has happened before, albeit for a limited time scale because the Repubs pussied out and gave in too early. This time will be no different because Obama needs your votes.
What this says: http://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/furlough-guidance/guidance-for-administrative-furloughs.pdf is we cannot take leave for the time we cannot work. I will be doing Mr Fix-It thing and Household Cleaning on my “furlough” days.
DHS Civilian here, same boat. Not whining about it.
An opportunity to get my home office cleaned up, or remodel the kitchen, or volunteer at the local food bank once a week.
If I remember correctly from the last time the government was shut down and Federal (GS) employees weren't fully paid on time they didn't lose any pay.
Their full pay was a partial pay with the difference made up as soon as the federal Government “went back” to work.
This happened in the mid to late 1990’s when Clinton and Gingrich had their spat over the debt ceiling, spending cuts and tax increases. An argument similar to today's spat.
Limbaugh, Levin, and other talkies pointed out that fed employees will be recompensed (paid back) for their time off once the BS settles down. But that those in private industry won’t.
Which means less taxes paid into the federal coffers.
I hope you are correct and yes I do feel like a pawn (although it’s raining really hard right now and I feel like a prawn)
former defense industry worker here, recently laid off/early retirement. Saw the writing on the wall. Was planning on going Galt anyway, just doing it sooner now. Less of me to tax is how I see it...
After 36 years being self-employed, I shut my biz down a few years ago, and haven’t made a dime since, other than selling assets. I went from needing 6 figures a month down to 3 figures.
I highly recommend that anyone getting revenue from a gov’t source, either working or entitleling, start deleveraging and get out of debt. And develop your own food sources.
“This happened in the mid to late 1990s” this AINE”T the “mid to late 1990s” AND Obama AINE’T Clinton AND Boner AINE’T Newt!
This is a different situation.
Last time the civilians were sent home for an extended period of time until the budget deal was done.
The point of this is to reduce cost, so it wouldn’t be too logical to turn around and spend the money they’re supposed to be saving (I know, I invoked logic. Sorry.)
We may be compensated when it’s all said and done, but I’m not going to assume we will and I’m definitely not counting on it.
The good news is my taxable income will go down. Less for Obama to throw at green energy projects.
Mr. Obama will do his best to make the sequester look painful, warning of furloughs, layoffs, diminished security. But unlike the threat of the tax cliffwhich would have immediately hit all American paychecksthe sequester may prove a harder calamity to sell.
Agencies will have 120 days to implement changes. While those agencies are currently predicting doom, they will in reality face pressure to impose cuts in ways that minimize harm. Government unions won’t let agency heads cut employees instead of fancy conference budgets. Moreover, this is a 2.5% cut in spending, not a government shutdown. Americans will continue to get their passports, cash their Social Security checks, and visit national parks.

My Dad got it all back. Just like it never happened. For most it was a paid vacation.
Government by Freakout: Obamas Scare Tactics Arent Much of a Long-Term Strategy.
22 February 2013
The presidents sequester strategy is like Howard Beale in Network: Woe is us. . . . And woe is us! Were in a lot of trouble!
It is always cliffs, ceilings and looming catastrophes with Barack Obama. It is always government by freakout.
Thats whats happening now with the daily sequester warnings. Seven hundred thousand children will be dropped from Head Start. Six hundred thousand women and children will be dropped from aid programs. Meat wont be inspected. Seven thousand TSA workers will be laid off, customs workers too, and air traffic controllers. Lines at airports will be impossible. The Navy will slow down the building of an aircraft carrier. Troop readiness will be disrupted, weapons programs slowed or stalled, civilian contractors stiffed, uniformed first responders cut back. Our nuclear deterrent will be indefinitely suspended. Ha, made that one up, but give them time.
Mr. Obama has finally hit on his own version of national unity: Everyone get scared together.
Obviously the potential budget cuts the administration is announcingwell, not announcing but warning ofare the kind that would cause maximum pain, inconvenience or alarm. Obviously too, the administration doesnt want to be clear about exactly who might be affected, how or when. Let the imaginative dwell on the extent of the menace; let them do it on cable news.
