RON PAUL, Republican of Texas, has retired from the House, after winning more than two million presidential primary votes in 2012. He took the partys libertarian wing from ignorable fringe to significant faction. His son, Senator Rand Paul, Republican of Kentucky, is angling to lead that faction, very possibly as a presidential candidate himself.
The libertarian wings dissatisfaction with Mitt Romney led the Libertarian Party to earn 1.2 million votes in the presidential election for its candidate, the former New Mexico governor (and former Republican) Gary Johnson. That was its largest vote total ever. In at least seven national House and Senate races a Libertarian beat the spread between a winning Democrat and a losing Republican. From the Republican point of view, losing the libertarians can mean losing elections.
Theres a whole swath of people not getting adequate attention from Republicans or Democrats, Senator Paul told me recently. These are independent voters who want to seriously cut government spending the way the Tea Party faction does but who also want a foreign policy more of defense and less offense, as Senator Paul put it, and a more socially tolerant attitude.

I am going to do my damndest to primary every RINO Congressman and Senator in my state that I can. I’m going to give money to conservatives who I think can beat them. I’ll work on their campaigns now that I’m retired.
But I will tell you this. I am not about to hold out for Rand Paul for President of anything, nor would I vote for him.
He has some good ideas and some that I think are horribly foolish. I’m not going to be a RINO supporter but I’m not going full blown BIG L Libertarian either.
How about Judge Andrew Napolitano?
There is no sarcasm. We will not vote for another fake conservative or whoever the establishment forces upon us. Not McCain, Not Romney and if Rand is not on the ballot it’s going to be 8 more years of Democrat rule and almost certainly a liberal Supreme Court with Scalia and Kennedy 77 years old. I like the judge but he’s not running, it’s Rand Paul or bust and if you don’t put him on the ballot we will stay at home and the revenge of the Paulian’s will be 8 years of Democrat rule and a liberal Supreme Court. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

This is too sarcasm. Rand Paul is no libertarian. And any efforts he makes to align himself his his fathers liberaltarian and kooky ideas will fail.
Deservedly so.
Rand tries to pass himself off as a Tea Partier. But I’m not so sure he is effective at that as well. Rand has a long way to go and a lot to overcome (like his fathers name and image) before conservatives will take him seriously as a presidential candidate.
You signed up here less than two months ago and your voting ‘ultimatim’ is that if RP isn’t on the ballot, “we” are gonna stay home again....didn’t you go “write him in?” during the last election or did you just sit home?
It’s up to RP to ‘get on the ballot’ not me. All he has to do is go out and get the signatures in the states where he want’s to be on the ballot and pay some fees.....

Well, the problem with the Libertarian Party is they carry principles beyond their purpose.

You will not accept any REAL conservatives either, because libertarianism and conservatism are DIFFERENT PHILOSOPHIES. Guess what? We’re not approving homo-marriage or most of the other quack ideas.
While we both agree that our country’s fiscal policy needs to be radically overhauled, conservatives have a commitment to restoring basic decency in America.

That’s John Adams. Since we are clearly no longer a moral or religious people (Obama was voted for TWICE), your libertarian society cannot adequately serve the people. Conservatism argues that the more morality we have in America, the closer we will be to the true vision of the Founders.
I was a registered republican for over 35 years. During the fiscal cliff nonsense I finally dropped my registration and joinEd the Libertarisn party. I have issues with them but fewer than I do with the RINO republicans. The Libertarians are objectively more honest and true to their principles than either major party, IMHO. The RINOs shouldn’t continue to get away with this crap.
He’s strong on defense. The common defense is in the constitution and he supports that. He doesn’t support no-win wars around the world and would not have gone into Iraq (4,000 dead soldiers and 1 trillion dollars )
