Study: New E15 gas can ruin auto engines
Washington Examiner ^ | January 30, 2013 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 01/30/2013 1:37:21 PM PST by george76

The fuel industry's American Petroleum Institute tested the 15 percent ethanol gas approved in 2010 and found it gums up fuel systems, prompts "check engine" lights to come on, and messes with fuel gauge readings.

"Failure of these components could result in breakdowns that leave consumers stranded on busy roads and highways," said the industry report. Worse: API said the fuel problems--not found in E5 or E10 blends--aren't always covered by auto warranties.

The industry prefers pure fuel to an ethanol mix, but the report isn't likely to slow the administrations green push

Growing up my brother swore by adding a 1/2 gallon of diesel to every tank of gas to “prevent knocking and keep the fuel pump healthy”.

Would adding a bit of deisel fuel to the tank work with modern vehicles....

Once Ubama rams card-check through, there will be no non-union jobs, automotive or otherwise.

Ubama needs your union dues for his thugocracy.

Some people eat field corn when it reaches the same stage as sweet corn. Put some sugar on it along with the butter and salt.

But, indirectly, if you eat commercially raised livestock, you’re eating field corn.

If you eat wildlife, that lived in corn country, you’re eating some field corn.

You eat field corn?

Would you be growing field corn if it wasn't reaping the benefits of the ethanol subsidy?

You eat field corn?

Not as far as I know. But, the fields could be used otherwise. The rise in corn prices since the US ethanol mandates is undeniable. And, it's also pretty clear to me that the production of ethanol from corn is at best energy neutral, or more likely, slightly energy negative.

By the way, I am aware that after ethanol fermentation, there is use for the remaining mash ss animal feed, so it's not a total loss.

I can check the pump, but I really would like to know if that is what is destroying my oxy sensors. They’re expensive!

The freaking E-10 ruins lawnmowers, weed eaters, chainsaws and outboards ...

I drive out of my way and pay .75 per gallon extra for straight gasoline ... and that is a hell of lot cheaper than replacing / rebuilding fuel lines and carbs.

Who the hell needs a study ... you could just ask any repair shop or anyone that owns a lawnmower.

You eat field corn?

Have you ever eaten anything like cornbread or with cornmeal as a coating as in fried fish? That is ground up field corn.

That gunk buildup is the ethanol eating up your rubber and plastic parts ... additives do nothing to stop that

I believe that all of the US car-makers will cite their case by summer, and have the stuff off the market by next winter.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha,

I am not laughing at you byut at your Naievete”
The EPA could care less about damage to your vehicle, or that you get less gas mileage.

They hope your car does break down ,then you lose no gas.

Ronald Reagan stated the worst words ever spoke were.:” I am here from the Government and I an here to help you.”

No, but I do love a good steak along with bacon, ham, ribs, and pork chops. You seen the price of meat lately? Hmmm, what could be the connection?

It should be noted that Obama mandated this without doing any testing on existing engines.

Any recommended fuel additives to combat this “gunk” buildup?

You could try gasoline.

Car enthusiasts have known this for a long time. Ethanol is especially destructive to the fuel systems of older cars....in addition to all the other reasons that ethanol is a joke and a boondoggle. Yet, NASCAR and IndyCar (or whatever they’re calling it this year) promote the hell out of it. I guess they need to appease their corporate and government masters.

My marine dealer has an additive that prevents damage to outboards. Don’t know the name of it or whether it is good for auto engines.

You don’t have to tell me about ethanol ruining engines. So far only small engines like lawnmowers. The guy who fixed one of my mowers said the best thing for his business is when they started putting ethanol in gasoline. I only put premium gas (no ethanol) in my small engines now.
