Thank goodness government is getting more involved in health care so we can finally put a stop to sick and injured people using too many painkillers.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced this week that the city is going to sharply restrict supplies of painkillers at the citys emergency rooms to combat a rampant addiction problem.
Yours, not his.
I have to clarify that point, because otherwise you may have the impression that Nanny Michael is addicted to power, and being a bit of a bully.
The city hospitals we control, he said Friday in response to critics, so were going to do it and were urging all of the other hospitals to do it, voluntary guidelines. Somebody said, oh, somebody wrote, Oh then maybe there wont be enough painkillers for the poor who use the emergency rooms as their primary care doctor.
Number one, theres no evidence of that. Number two, supposing it is really true, so you didnt get enough painkillers and you did have to suffer a little bit. The other side of the coin is people are dying and theres nothing perfect. Come on, this is a very big problem.
This very big problem, according to Bloomberg, is that people with afflictions like broken bones are being prescribed more painkillers than they need, and that leads to them either getting addicted, selling the drugs on the street or giving them to kids to get high.
I assume he knows this because of his own sordid past, during which he lived in a box on the mean streets doing Vicadin and getting to know all the Oxycontin dealers by first name.
If you break a leg, youre going to be in pain, nothing wrong with getting something that reduces the pain. But if you get 20 days worth of pills and you only need them three days, theres 17 days sitting there. Invariably some of the kids are going to find them, or youre going to take them and get you addicted.
I had a lot of liberal teachers growing up, and I recall being taught that the reason our criminal justice system presumed innocence is because it is better that one criminal go free than that an innocent man be imprisoned.
Shouldnt there be a similar principle in medicine? Its better to risk one person getting too many painkillers than that someone who needs them should go wanting?
But Bloomberg has long since proved that nothing can happen in New York without him getting a slice of it. He has already broken the backs of the trans fat mafia and super-size soda pimps; its high time to go after the black market painkiller trade.
According to Bloomberg, the overprescription of painkillers has led to a rise in violent crimes as well, as no-goods have been hanging around pharmacies to ambush patients.
You see theres a lot more hold-ups of pharmacies, people getting held up as they walk out of pharmacies. What are they all about? Theyre not trying to steal your shaving cream or toothpaste at the point of a gun. They want these drugs.
Of course, the city could allow people to carry guns to defend themselves, but that would be too easy and would allow people to be responsible for themselves.
Much better to ban medicine. Besides, wheres the fun of electing a liberal mayor if you cant leave sick people writhing in agony?
Maybe next week, the city can ban hospital food. Wouldnt want patients getting fat or selling Jell-O cups on the black market.
Another take on the controversy.
“First Do No Harm” is going out the window in NYC!
Nanny State PING!
A lot of drug witholding going on:
In NYC by Nanny Bloomberg...
In Iran because of International Sanctions...
In Britain because they are being rationed by postal code...
Coming soon to Obamacare... And for Mikey, he can mind his own business and let the doctors do their job.
Any word yet on when Bloomberg will take away food stamps from 400-lb women who cause sidewalk concrete to cave in?
Bloomberg is a traitor.
and he is,stupid
So when did Doucheberg earn his license to practice medicine? I’m assuming he must be an M.D. now as he seems to have no problem proffering his professional medical opinion about other doctors should treat their patients.
Entitle this: “How to Build a Black Market”....and P.S.....You didn’t build it !!!
How much do you know about the drug seeking behavior of street people in large urban inner city areas?
How much do you think that the behavior of addicts is a justification for making some patients with broken limbs, 3rd-degree burns, and so on, miserable?
Must be a treat for people of NYC to wake up each morning to learn what “The One Wannabe” has decreed for the day.
Oh, and in case you’re a Drug Warrior, the poppies in my front garden are there strictly for aesthetic purposes.
Dr. Bloomberg is in the house. Take your seat, give me that 32oz soda and suffer for a time. I will let you know when you can live in a few minutes.
With all due respect, what does that have to do with limiting availability of the drugs for people who need them?
Got a bunch of painkillers for my shoulder surgery. Took 4 because they mess with my head so much that I’d rather deal with the pain.
Fine — you chose that.
Maybe a more conscientious system of following up on people who might have used less than they were expected to might make sense. Or instructions that if the patient doesn’t want it all, he should flush the rest or take them to a pharmacy or whatnot. As with the trans fat and large drink things, this is a blind stab in the dark totally unresearched feel good move.
Why do I get the feeling that except by the grace of God ,Bloomberg would have demanded a more effecient Zyklon b.
Thanks for the ping!
