Hong Kong action hero Jackie Chan has once again provoked criticism, this time from an American blogger, after suggesting on Chinese television that the US is the "most corrupt" country in the world.
"When you talk about corruption -- the whole world, is there corruption in the United States? The most corrupt in the world!" the Rush Hour star, who has made headlines recently for his controversial views, told Phoenix TV last month.
Chan reaffirmed his view after the show's host questioned him -- "Of course! Where did the great breakdown come from? The world, the United States started it," Chan said, referring to the financial crisis and gesticulating as he spoke.
His comments were rebuked Thursday by Max Fisher, a foreign affairs blogger for the Washington Post, who called them "anti-American" rhetoric that was rooted in China's insecurity.
"To the degree that Chan's comments were anti-American, they likewise reflect a common Chinese view of the United States, one that is rooted not just in attitudes toward America but in China's proud but sometimes insecure view of itself," Fisher said.
Jackie Chan also said China is a relatively young country, where in the first half of its history it was "bullied by so many people", and that it only achieved "real success" in the past decade.
"Our country's leaders admit they are corrupted, etcetera. We are improving -- I can see our country is constantly improving and learning," he said, adding that everyone is making an issue out of China because it is "powerful" now.
Chan, who is known for his martial arts skills and daring stunt work, sparked criticism in Hong Kong, which was returned to China in 1997, after he reportedly told a Chinese magazine last December that protest in the city should be restricted.

He’s right, we ARE the most corrupt because we are richest and most powerful. The richer and more powerful a government is the more corrupt it will be.
He must be applying for the open Mandarin post in southern
China!
Maybe once I'd have laughed at such a charge of "most corrupt" but not now, not in January 2013. Today, we're in the running for the title. Just give us a little more time with The One running the show and no one will argue the charge. It will be obvious. Be afraid. It's well past time to pray for us.
“Really, Jackie? This is coming from the country that doesn’t allow freedom of speech and religion”
Your point would have been more valid in the Old America. this point isn’t so potent in the New America.
I would not say we have unfettered freedom of speech or religion here in America.
On corruption, the blatant manipulation of the “reserve” currency by the US is arguably corruption of unmatchable proportions by any country, including China - and corruption that will impoverish, starve, foment war and general human misery when it all falls apart as it must.
We own this corruption, whether we like (or agree with) it or not.
He’s right. Our country is corrupt. It’s rotting. Everything that was once acknowledged as good and great is now evil and horrible. Our government is hopeless. It’s corrupt and rotting away and the vultures are right now picking through it’s dead carcass for the choicest morsels. Our culture is corrupt and rotting away. Look at our entertainment. Look at our schools. Look at our people. We are so rotten and we have fallen so far from what we once were. We are corrupt.
Then you should have no problem returning all of the ‘corrupt’ money that you made in ‘the most corrupt country in the world’, Jackie.

Do you disagree with this?

Carter, Clinton, Dodd, Frank,,,,,,,,He might have somewhat of a valid point,,,,,,I’d actually like to see all of the interview, to see if there’s any qualifying comments. We’re only seeing a couple of “lifted” sentences.
I think he still holds a grudge about being cast as a Japanese in one of those “gumball/cannonball” films.
He’s wrong because it’s anti American rhetoric aimed at America’s role in the world.
However, the biggest unreported story in America is massive corruption, mostly by democrats. Also by immigrants from cultures in which lying and corruption are endemic.
You think drug violence in cities isn’t tolerated because of massive payoffs? Protecting 20 million illegals is corruption, as is the related voter fraud. Huge shifts of public money to unions and “green companies” is corrupt. These people are all selling out America big time and no one dares mention it- because they will silence you any way they must.
The dem party has become exactly what the old USSR govt was, an organized crime syndicate, and the corruption is on a scale most people simply cannot grasp.
It doesn't make a difference what level of govt., city, county, state, or federal or which branch of govt. executive, legislative, or judicial when a dem has there fingers in it, there is corruption.
I have no idea where Chan is from originally, but I do know the Hong Kong film industry made him a star. You’d think he’d learn a little something from that, and prefer countries more like Hong Kong and less like the rest of China.
>>Well, Kirk is the superior officer and character. Id take Kirk and Spock vs. Picard and Worf any day.
I’m sure that the “Next Generation” considers the people of Kirk’s time to be the “Greatest Generation”. So, they lounge around in Ten Forward sipping drinks or act out their fantasies in the holodecks, while wondering why they aren’t as strong and self-sure as the people of Kirk’s time.
One of the small (very small) pleasures of what the future holds in store for the hate-America-first crowd will be watching them find out what real corruption and oppression is once they get their socialist/fascist paradise.
I presume he’s only counting as the country the current regime, which dates either back to Deng Xiaoping after Mao’s death in 1976 or the Communist victory in 1949. Let’s hope it’s the former, since 60 or so years and 65 million corpses is enough of a learning curve.
Rather ludicrous to state America is the most corrupt, with all that goes on elsewhere. Good grief, look at China!
But America is indeed a shadow of what it once was, and is wallowing in corruption... from Obama’s billions of ‘porkulus’ payoffs to political cronies, to the burgeoning illegals’ sub-culture and sanctuary cities. The culture has decayed, and the country has become a morally bankrupt sewer.
Washington DC in general is corrupt. The Hussein regime is corrupt. I hail from one of the three top corrupt states government-wise.
The academic world is largely intellectually corrupt. The entertainment industry is hypocritically corrupt. The media is riddled with anti-American corruption. Various religious denominations have become morally corrupt. Many sycophantic military chiefs have become politically corrupt.
A disclaimer, of course, is that my observations do not condemn ALL members of the above instutions in a blanket appellation of corruption. I can only comment that one is hard-pressed to name an institution in this country that is not fully or partially corrupted or is not the target of evil people seeking to corrupt it.
On the other hand, if I were a personage of note, I would never bad-mouth my country publicly....not only for patriotic reasons, but why would I want to bite the hand that rewards me so fabulously !

If he is talking about day-to-day corruption, bribing minor officials, etc, this is an absurd comment coming from Chan.
If he is talking about the corruption of law and human rights, this is even more absurd.
However, if he is talking about high-level corruption: Voter fraud, union payoffs, official lies about major international incidents, media complicity in lies and coverups, then America is the number one corrupt nation in the world.... having wrested that title from the former Soviet Union.
