Blaine Gabbert will be part of the Jaguars quarterback competition next summer. Tim Tebow will not.
That was the word from the Jaguars new general manager Dave Caldwell, who has been given by a free hand by owner Shad Khan to make all football decisions. Caldwell was introduced to the media on Thursday and when asked about Tebow, closed the door on bringing in the Jacksonville native.
As far as Tim goes, he is a member of the New York Jets. I cant imagine a scenario where he would be a Jacksonville Jaguar, he said. When asked to repeat that statement, he did.
Caldwell was then asked if that meant even if Tebow is released by the Jets. Even if he is released, Caldwell replied. I have others in mind and Im comfortable with whats here.
That should end the seemingly endless speculation that Tebow was going to wind up playing for his hometown team. ESPN even reported recently that it was a virtual certainty that Tebow would be playing for the Jaguars next season.I

I saw some in the morning Miami TV media making fun of Tebow over being rejected by the Jags.
I wish Tebow would be able to play for a Florida team. Hope he gets a chance to play somewhere.
tim tebow would be the best quarter back to ever play for the jags.
I hope the Jags enjoy covering up thousands and thousands of seats again. Jacksonville is a bad place for an NFL team. The city is terribly spread out, it’s a huge Navy town(allegiances to other teams), and people care about college football more than the NFL.
Some, probably. But the reality is Tim Tebow is simply not an NFL caliber quarterback. He's got a great attitude, a winning personality, etc, but he doesn't have the actual mechanics, skill, etc, for an NFL team to build their franchise around. Tebow might be great as a tight end who is willing to play QB if needed, but that is not what Tim wants - he thinks he can be a starting NFL QB and no team sees that in him. The NFL is about min/maxing. Especially for the QB position, they are not looking for a "rudy" jack of all trades type person - they are looking for the absolute best they can get. Tebow isn't it.
Tebow would need to put up some decent numbers before he passes Mark Brunell.
Tebow has shown nothing but class the whole way - not what ESPN respects.
He needs to get involved in a nightclub shooting, or knock up a half dozen girls. Or set up a dog fighting racket.
Of course some putz will show up in a few to explain how he isn't the best QB to ever play the game.
No doubt the NFL is trying to run Tebow out of the league because of his religious views. ESPN spends a lot of time bashing Tebow....and its Black Racist commentators are especially nasty
The NFL wants the Jags in LA....and Tebow would crimp those plans because he would sell tickets.
The city should consider using eminent domain on the Jags....I would support such a move in this case since the city of Jax owns the stadium the Jags play in. Seize the team...make the NFL squirm
Dave Caldwell says: “The Jags are happy here is Loserville. We don’t want to confuse the fans by winning games.”

Agreed; and, note that RGIII doesn’t get the same criticism for his religious beliefs that Tebow does. RGIII even emulates “the Tebow” at times, and has been quoted several times regarding his belief in God. Parker’s criticism was that RGIII was a “cornball” whatever, I don’t think he criticized his religious beliefs.
The other thing to consider is that the media is making this a big deal as a swipe against Tebow. The Jaguars said he is under contract with the Jets. Anything else would be interfering with another team's player. They may be saying they have no interest in him now because they would have to trade for him. Why would they want to do that if the Jets end up cutting him and they can get him as a free agent? I would not be surprised if he does end up a Jaguar after all.
Kind of reminds me of Kordell Stewart. When he was playing as "Slash," for the Steelers he was an incredibly versatile and dynamic player and his mere presence threw an opposing defense of balance. He may be a QB on one play, show up as a WR on the next, and then punt if the team failed to convert.
...But he insisted on being a full time, starting QB, and his career tanked.
That’s the main reason. Their loss.
How many blackouts did the Jags have last year? Answer ZERO. How many other franchises, in Florida, had TV blackouts? Both of them.
The Jags play in a larger venue than most teams. You are right, this is a college sports town. That is the reason the stadium seats as many as it does, because of the Gator Bowl (which was not near a sell out this year either).
I don’t think the Jags are going to LA, perhaps there was a clause in the sales agreement which ties them here. I don’t know that for sure. LA could not even support the Rams or the Raiders when they had them there. If a team does go there, it will be Buffalo when Wilson gives up or perhaps San Diego IMO.
As far as Tebow goes and Caldwell’s comment, I suspect he would get nailed with a tampering charge if he said they were interested in getting him here. Tebow is under contract with the Jets. They are not going to cut him lose till they extort a draft pick from someone. Will he ever be a great NFL QB, probably not but he is serviceable. The pagans of the world hate this guy so whatever the press says about him I take with a grain of salt...he looks qualified to play to me.
Tebow is leading a biblical life. Survives the physicians who suggested that his mother kill him before birth, grows big and strong stands out as a leader and has great accomplishments early in life, finds himself hampered by jealous petty people, bit bewildered and begins an exile in the desert where it seems he is unwanted and has no home. End of story? Doubt it. More to follow.

And conversely, is it just because he is a good Christian that some freepers ignore his inability to play quarterback in the NFL? What if his name was Mohammad KaTebow?
Yup, pretty good comparison.
Tebow is very likely to be out of football next season because he just doesn't have the potential to be a really great quarterback. Few teams want to invest the time in someone they can plainly see on film and in workouts doesn't have the fundamentals to even develop into an elite QB. The NFL is all about min/maxing. In key positions, teams aren't looking for a jack of all trades, master of none type of player.
Tebow has a winning attitude and personality though. With his size, if he was willing to maybe be a tight end who is also a 3rd string quarterback, he could really be valuable to someone. If he wants to stay in the NFL though in that capacity, he would probably have to stay out of the spotlight. One of the other reasons teams avoid him is they know because Tebow is outspoken about his faith and a big media draw, he is a potential QB controversy waiting to happen if the starter(s) are having a bad season.
Guys like Russell Wilson RGIII (although RG has been ridiculed for not being a “real” brother). The networks hardly show it, but there are a lot of Christian athletes who gather and pray together after each game.
Not to take away from him, but Tebow has, in part, followed the well-worn path of attention getting. Notice how many new quarterbacks very publicly start dating some attractive starlet... and then very publicly break up
Tony Romo - Jessica Simpson
Mark Sanchez - Eva Longoria
Tim Tebow - Camilla Belle
As a Christian myself, it's probably not wholly accurate to say that Tebow is getting picked on because of his faith.
For the most part I agree, and yet, I would contend that if Kordell had continued his career as "Slash" he would have been a serious Hall Of Fame contender in a George Blanda, utility player kind of way.
As it is, I think his reality TV gig may be about the best he's going to get.
