In a landmark settlement, the Pentagon has agreed to give full back pay to U.S. service members who were discharged due to their sexual orientation under the military's Dont ask, dont tell policy.
The payouts will be granted to service members dismissed from the military under the now-repealed policy on or after November 2004.
This means so much to those of us who dedicated ourselves to the military, only to be forced out against our will for being who we are, former Air Force Staff Sgt. Richard Collins said in a statement from the American Civil Liberties Union, which brought the lawsuit.
Under "Dont ask," service members who were honorably discharged automatically had their separation pay cut in half.

WTH? This article sounds like the court decided to make the repeal of DADT retroactive.
Let them collect it from the VA.
FMCDH(BITS)
(hint..no)
Just as Laws can't be passed Ex Post Facto to penalize preious acts, the DADT Policy should not be retroactively found to be un-fair....it was a Policy KNOWN PUBLICLY, and violation resulted in Dismissal.
There is NO WAY Taxpayers should subsidize sex deviates CHOSEN lifestyle, nor be FORCED to pay for their "exposure and dismissal due to following APPROVED Policy".
too bad they couldn't keep their kinky little selfs in their own homes...no, they had to have all of us exposed to it...
In a few short year, gays will be running (ruining) the Military. Count on it. If you don’t lick their boots (or perform other acts) you’ll be out on your ass.
Good Post IMO, and so right on the mark.
Democrats have perfected another way to redistribute wealth from taxpayers to designated victim groups.
.........
Spot on.
BTTT
What part of "don't tell" didn't you understand sissy?
Seriously though, is this guy's name Dick Collins? No wonder he turned out like a fruitcake.
This is the latest Obama ploy to circumvent the legislature. He simply gets someone to file suit, has his “justice department” fail to defend, and then reaches a “settlement” which writes new law.
Then congress would have to pass a law to STOP payment, except the senate won’t bring it up, and Obama would veto it.
So here we have Obama paying off every gay person who was ever found out in the military. No authorization from congress needed — remember, they haven’t even formally repealed the program, Obama simply stopped enforcing it.
Where does the money come from? Well, since there is no appropriation, I presume it is just made out of thin air. Or they’ll cut some legitimately authorized program Obama doesn’t like.
Years ago I read an article in American Spectator. The artless said most gays get caught molesting kids of other soldiers.
Sure, once we start minting those trillion dollar coins, we can easily pay this out.
Discharged under perfectly legitimate policy at the time, but now that the policy has been arbitrarily reversed, that makes these homosexuals somehow worth back pay? I don’t get it.
It’s nice to know the Pentagon is conducting “settlements” now WITH OUR MONEY!!! Obviously, the Pentagon’s budget is too big. They’ve got money to give away.
