Republicans need to "have a discussion on guns" in the wake of last week's grade-school massacre in Newtown, Conn., Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told his conference Tuesday.
Speaking to his troops at a closed-door meeting in the Capitol, Boehner was mindful of conservatives' traditional opposition to new gun restrictions, emphasizing that Republicans wouldn't do "anything knee-jerk," according to a lawmaker in the room.
But the Speaker also said he wants to "de-politicize" the issue of gun violence, which has been thrust dreadfully into the national spotlight following the murder of 26 people 20 of them young school children at Sandy Hook Elementary School last Friday.

“I think Beohner is a deep dem plant and has been one all along.”
Been saying that a long time. Glad to see that a few other people finally get it. It is too late to matter however. The conservatism that built America has already been effectively taken out. There is no great leader left to stand up for it any longer.
My choices are Bachman or Col West.
Bonehead must go. He's unhinged.
If you have access to Facebook, please post this at the Varney & Co. page. Stuart Varney is a Euro-weenie when it comes to guns.
I swear these nuts are gov’t experiments working towards a goal.
That was the best thing I think I could have seen today regarding this. Thank you.
The GOP is dead, bring back the whigs.
So basically they’re going to tell us that they’re going to ban guns.
And we can complain or add comments they won’t care about or even consider.
Where was the “discussion” on Healthcare?
I’ve got an idea. Since governments have by far the worst record in terms of “gun deaths”, let’s start the discussion with gun control....for the government.
Ban semiautomatics? OK, fine, but let’s start with a “trial measure”” that eliminates black guns for the FBI/BATFE/IRS etc.
When the GOP abandons the 2nd amendment I’m out of there!
John McCain, without the war record and pudgy daughter.
What c-word that man is.....
Boehner is an alcoholic. He’s got problems he doesn’t want to face amd deal with. He’ll go to his grave a boozer and a weeper, and a guy who likes to show how big and strong he is with strong words ONLY and then capitulation.
A loser and wrong for the most important job that he holds.
He holds the lives of so many people in his hands and he caves in to the enemy instead. A dangerous man and he must be removed.
REMOVE BOEHNER NOW!
Get Rid Of Boehner, NOW!
You definitely do NOT want Israel’s gun model. Trust me.
I will also call my own representative to let him know of my displeasure with Mr. Boehner's call for "discussion" on the Second Amendment.
Additionally, I will be glad to contribute to any pro-2nd Amendment challenger for Mr. Boehner's House seat in 2014.
I will also call the RNC to let Mr. Priebus that the GOP needs to remain firm on this issue.
I don't think that the left can generate more hysteria-driven folly like the 1968 GCA, but Mr. Boehner's moronic capitulation to "discussion" doesn't help our side at all.
Mr. Boehner, rather than mewling about the 2nd Amendment, why don't you please do something useful? Clearly, we have far too much government; why not spend some time on, say, getting rid of the Department of Education?
Engaging the left when it is on yet another quest to exploit a tragedy in order to pass hysteria-driven laws is simply bad politics. Instead, move the discussion back to our vast over-spending; we are on the edge of taxmeggedon, and there are far more productive items for the Speaker of the House to be "discussing".
He acts like he has ovaries. This might help him.
Don’t know why anyone’s surprised.
People are fond of saying that elections have consequences and that’s true. But it is also true that there are consequences for having gone out and rah rah’d a liberal gun grabber to lead the party.
It sent a very clear message to the GOP. That message was...
“We will feed you crap because you have shown us that you love the taste.”
And now here we are faced with what could be the sudden and in very real ways, death knell for t=our only means of defense against actual communist tyranny. Widespread gun control and confiscation.
Bohner will indeed have his ‘conversation. It will go like this.
“The American people, by the millions supported Mitt Romney, who had a very open record of being pro gun control. Their support tells me that these people are willing to moderate the traditional Republican stance on guns. Because it would be absurd to think they would have voted for a gun grabber otherwise.”
WHY should Bohner fear a backlash? He has no reason to. He is VERY aware that GOP voters will continue to vote GOP no matter what they do. No matter how liberal their policies. No matter how many times they roll over and give the Democrats EVERYTHING they want.
And he knows that across the blogsphere, a significant number of the very people calling themselves ‘Conservative will run out like good little soldiers and make excuses for him, trash anyone who opposes the GOP and do everything within their power, including lying through their teeth, to ensure that Johnny and Co. get the votes come 2014/2016.
And since we have seen EVERY BIT of the above just play out in technicolor over the past several months, we should not be the least bit shocked.
But perhaps we, collectively speaking should leave the plantation. Or STFU and enjoy the flavor of the next sandwiches. And the next, and the next... I would hope by now people are having a serious revaluation of their ‘beliefs’.
EDIT...Got ahead of my self...
“WE sent a very clear message to the GOP. We will continue to eat what ever crap you serve up because we have shown by our actions that we love the taste.”
Thank you for posting that. I foresee it making it’s way to my facebook friends.
I’d never seen that before. What an awesome testimony. And I see that douche schumer just sitting there smirking.
grrrrr
This asshat is a complete joke. He’s NOTHING like a Republican. He is a liberal Democrat.
