Conservatives make John Boehner’s life difficult—again

WASHINGTON—Conservatives panned the House Republican proposal released Monday to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff, yet again giving House Speaker and lead negotiator John Boehner little room to maneuver as he works toward a deal with the White House.

The proposal includes extending current tax rates for all income levels and raising revenue by closing loopholes in the tax code.

Maybe he should consider another line of work.

Well, these idiots went right along with Boehner and Cantor and McCarthy continuing as leaders. Goemert nominated Gingrich to be speaker and not one republican seconded the nomination. They could have sent a message but they chose to cower in fear (of a man with no spine, no less).

First of all, DeMint is a minority party Senator. Senate has not part in this dance. He can say what he wants, he has no responsibility here.

I thought Boehner’s plan was realistic, as much as I hated it.

Listen, we're going over the cliff. We have to be as reasonable as possible to avoid some of the blame (doubt if it will work, but we have to put best deal out there). While I like the doomsday option, I would do it differently.

I would simply allow a vote to raise marginal tax rates on the 2%, but change nothing else in the law. Estate taxes, AMT, deductions, etc. would all remain the same. Minimal pain on minimal amount of people.

Our Reps can vote “present” if they want, but send it to Senate. Let them pass it or ignore it - might help the blame game.

Oh this is great. Now Boehner is the best friend of the Left and the awful conservatives are going to be the fall guys. The Word “Conservative” will be the next victim to Alinsky’s Rules.

I would simply allow a vote to extend all tax cuts and laws permanently, but raise marginal tax rates on the 2% to, say, 38%, but change nothing else in the law. Estate taxes, AMT, deductions, etc. would all remain the same. Minimal pain on minimal amount of people.

Our Reps can vote “present” if they want, but send it to Senate. Let them pass it or ignore it - might help the blame game.

Goemert nominated Gingrich to be speaker

And why did he do this instead of nominate an ACTUAL HOUSE MEMBER?!

2014 is going to look like 1974 for the GOP House.

I would say because not a single House member decided to put themselves up for nomination to a leadership post. They chose to go along to get along. So Goemert nominated the last real leader the House had, and the only real leader in the presidential campaign.

I would alter the AMT to that regardless of deductions, credits, or any other tax terminology, everyone has to pay a minimum of 10% in taxes.

We will have to see if my resolve holds up (my track record is not good):

In 2008 I said, "I hate McCain. He's a RINO. I'm not voting for him." But I looked at Obama, I took a deep breath, and I voted for McCain.
In 2012 I said, "I hate Romney. He's a RINO. I'm not voting for him." But I looked at Obama, I took a deep breath, and I voted for Romney.

I have voted straight Republican since 1978 (well, a couple stray Libertarian votes a long time ago ...) but my current position is: I'm done. No more money or votes for the GOP. That party needs to die and be replaced.

But we will see if my resolve holds up.

Just as a note, it is not a requirement for the Speaker of the House to be a sitting House member - anyone can be elected to hold that post by the House, even if they have never held elective office in their life.

I can’t believe FR posted a Yahoo News story and you people are commenting on it like it’s real news.

Yahoo News is left leaning as they get, and they love to incite conservatives. Go back and look at when they ever did a story on Dems “in disarray”.

geeze

Not likely the Senate will pass my version of Doomday; if they did, doubt Obama would sign.

We could, in good faith, argue we tried to save the middle class from tax hikes.

We get another shot with the debt ceiling for spending and entitlement savings.

We are fighting terrorists. They don't care if they blow up the country of the economy. Their principles are more important.
