The polls are open on the east coast!!
From this morning's election day prayer thread:
"Heavenly Father may you forgive this nation and its people for the many awful sins that we have commited against you. We do not deserve the wonderful ways we have been blessed and please forgive us for our indifference, neglect and complacency towards you. May you forgive us who are members of your Church who have neglected our calling and commitment to you to be effective witnesses and stewards of the many blessings you have generously bestowed upon us. Many of us have cried out to you for the past few years as never before and we humbly beseech you to bring an overwhelming, crushing defeat on the forces of darkness in our nation. First we pray that you quicken your Church by your spirit and lead us to unity to stand against the onslaught of darkness upon us. May you smash every crooked deed as evil men and women try to hold onto power and may this be so convincing that everyone knows that your hand is in this. Then we may bring the light of your Gospel to our people who do not know you and to the nations of the world.
May you block and undo every policy and piece of legislation they have passed that is harmful to this nation. May you make every policy they make fail and may you turn the hearts of the multitudes against them. May you thwart every evil deed they try to divide this nation with. May you bring their own mischief upon them ten fold. May you punish those in our government who are lawless traitors and enemies of the Constitution by exposing them and deliver them into our hands for justice. However we also pray that through this that you open their eyes to the truth and in your mercy that you bring these people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ to serve as a witness to many. May you also use this to bring revival across our nation and a restoration of a culture that glorifies You. We also pray for those just leaders in our government who are struggling against the lawless. We pray for your protection and that you embolden them to do what is right to triumph in the election and in the arena of ideas. May you also continue to open the hearts and minds of the American people to the the truth and draw them towards yourself to be renewed in repentance and spiritual rebirth.
And this we humbly ask in Jesus name. AMEN!"

Well, here in Arlington VA, at 7AM there was a ridiculously long line of hundreds of people snaking down several blocks at the polling location. I am just going to go to work and come back this afternoon to vote.
Arlington went 72% for Obama in 2008, and this neighborhood is overwhelmingly young single white professionals.
People work themselves into a bit of a frenzy of optimism on these threads.
BIG BIRD SAYS DODO IN THE WHITE HOUSE HAS GO TO GO!
Rage monkey says no ponies.
My only disappointment was the line was nearly half full of Negroes and south of the border types (who have migrated from Prince William County after they enacted tough immigrant laws). Stafford County was, and always has been a bastion of conservatism but now so many liberals from the northern counties and Maryland have infested us I fear for the outcome.
I am hoping this was the anomaly and that the rest of the day has conservatives coming in after they get off work (I took a few days of use-or-lose vacation time just for the vote).
My daughter will be voting for Romney/Ryan when she awakens (24 year old lazy slug :-) ) and her boyfriend, a Marine Reservist, will drive up from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond to vote after his classes end this afternoon. There are at least four votes for freedom right there.
LOL
I’m so sick of the media, including Faux News, as they gleefully report...’it’s a tie’ ‘it’s a tie’.
I hope after today we will wipe those smiles of their faces.
Heading out to the polls.
Please tell her I said so :-)
Drove through Mt. Airy on Sunday (first time in almost twenty years, and went to MA middle school back in the 80’s)!
Voted at 640 with my husband in NJ, and no one was in line. Made smal talk with polling ladies about the ridiculousness of not needing to show ID (we recently moved and misplaced our voter ID’s, so a DL should have been required, I am sure we all agree). The ladies agreed, and said hopefully, next time...
My dear (politically ignorant) husband voted for O last time, but was straight ticket R this time. I told him we might get divorced if he didn’t, but he has seen the light over the last year, so not to worry.
Of course, now that NJ can vote via email or fax, I assume our votes were entirely wasted. I really think they did that because internal polling showed NJ was too close for dem comfort. SIgh. I am surrounded by nothing but RR signs and bumper stickers.
Totally agree,
having said that, just looking into the electoral stats at an armchair level, it seems strange very strange about the over sampling, to suggest a greater turnout for dems this year, than 2008 seems a little odd.....but on the wider point, if that is how it turns out, the last thing we want to hear next time is cries of oversampling!!
I think it does Romney a favor as it did Reagan to have expectations downplayed.....people are all the more eager to vote!
Any notes on turnout levels? Especially interested in racial makeup...if blacks vote like 2008 that will lend more credence to polls with Obama ahead, for example.
I really think the group thats gonna blindside the dems this cycle is the catholics the priesthood really seems to be pushing hard for their flocks to do the right thing
I agree. I remember reading a lot of this anecdotal evidence in 2008...and about the polls being oversampling dems...and we see where THAT got us...
Thank you for the heartfelt prayer FRiend. I pray that He strengthens us in this fight.
DH voted on the way to work before 7am, and said there was a line out the door, (never noted by us before at this solidly Republican precinct!). The pollworkers said 41% of the precinct had already voted early, so this big turnout today looks good :)
Will report in again when I get back in from my voting run.
May God keep watch.
Tatt
Of course the post you replied to is nothing more than anecdotal evidence as well. Means nothing.
Please report whether your area GOP/RAT/liberal/conservative.
Without that crucial info, the rest of us don’t know whether a long or short line report is good or bad.
Just got back from voting in a rural county here in Central Virginia. This was by far the largest turnout that I’ve ever seen. Almost time to change my Tagline!!!
