With less than a week before the election, the race for the White House is dead even: Barack Obama and Mitt Romney receive 46 percent each, according to a Fox News poll of likely voters.
Romney had a razor-thin 46-45 percent edge earlier this month, after the first presidential debate (October 7-9).
Interviews in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy were completed before Monday evening, when the hurricane made landfall.
Independents give the edge to Romney by seven percentage points (46-39 percent). Thats down from a 12-point advantage in early October.
Theres a gender gap in vote preference, as men back Romney by 51-42 percent, while women side with Obama by 50-42 percent.
The new Fox poll finds Obama under-performing compared to his 2008 exit poll numbers by 13 percentage points among independents, 9 points among white men, 6 points among women and 4 points among voters under age 30.
Among the subgroup of most interested voters, those who are extremely interested in the election, Romney leads Obama by 53-42 percent.

I think you are missing the point...These polls are only meant to manufacture opinion for Dems
It`s not whether it`s true or not, but that it is aired. Once aired it is hoped that the poll becomes reality, the masses eat it all up.
Fox record of polling is just terrible, their last pollster was Opinion Dynamics, they did the same thing in 2004 in their last poll for Fox///BTW I predicted that very thing prior to the poll as well.
Fox needs to get out of polling, they continue to have wool pulled over their eyes.
If it should be true, it will only mean that their efforts to manufacture opinion worked
It’s a beautiful autumn day here in the swamps of Delaware. Both nearby Ocean City in Merryland, and mine own Rehoboth Beach have survived with Boardwalks intact, Hurrican Sandy.
As a woman I really will step up to the podium here and defend my gender.

First, what a kind of thoughtless thing to post a comment calling all women stupid. Such a doltish comment reflects poorly on HE who wrote it.
Second, do not believe the media hype. Women are voting for Romney across the fruited plains, and they are doing so in huge numbers.
The stupid ones are the liberals and yes, there are many women liberals.
I’d also point out that women are the gentler sex, we were designed that way. We nurse the babies and pretty the nests and run the household. Do not ever forget, she who rocks the cradle, rocks the world.
So I’d probably agree that more women are liberals than, say, men. But men, heh, they want a woman’s love when they want it, they want their children nurtured and nourished, they want the soft touch of a female to quell testosterone run amok.
The sneer against females to me serves to make the people at Freerepublic look really dumb.
As for Reagan, back in the day when I was a young liberal, hip, happening, with a male in every port, where the men were like a bus: I missed one and another one would come along.
I was in college and so cool you couldn’t touch me with for the frost.
The women’s libbers told me that Ronald Reagan was bad for women, that we all should meet at the Reagan inauguration, WEARING ALL GREEN, to show ole Ronnie we are a force to be reckoned with.
So I did. I carried 5 gallon buckets all over Washington DC, me and, of all people, my child’s teacher. The buckets allowed us to tower over the crowds and jeer Ronald Reagan as was our plan.
Well I learned soon enough that the women’s lib gang was a bunch of lesbians taking off with a cause and fooling those so foolish.
Imagine that.
And I’m a woman and figured it out.
Extremely interested is about where I expect the final numbers to fall.
Fox ranks among the worst polling outfits.
That’s why they rely on Rasmussen so much.
Also, remember Fox is a business, wants a horse race for ratings.
Single women can be...especially those who have babies one after the other without a husband
their behavior demonstrates their acumen
we now live in an America where out national IQ aggregate has collapsed and for reasons no one will talk about
more or less a 25-30% underclass dependent on government and not very bright about their affairs
May I tweak your prognostication a bit?
I think you’re right, Obama will win Md, DC, Calif and Illinois. Disagree about Penna and mine own state of Delaware.
But beyond that, I think you nailed it.
” HI, CA, IL, DC, PA(maybe), MD, DE, and NM(maybe) are going to go Obama.
That will be about it.”
I’m thinking pretty much the same thing, and that is without any Benghazi revelations in the interim.
Your post reminds me a lot of a quote out of one of Shakespeare’s plays called: “The Taming of the Shrew”! It goes like this: “Why are women so simple?”. If you’ve read it or have seen one of the plays/movies, it’s in one of character “Katharina’s” speeches toward the end of the play/movie. It’s a very funny story!
I have read all your posts and I learned a lot. I’ve been a political junkie since I first listened to the conventions on the radio in 1956 when I was 11 years old. It was just me and the radio as my parents could care less. I don’t suffer fools very well so I probably don’t have many friends that don’t think like I do - teachers excepted. Makes me very sad.
Fox News poll: Race for the White House a dead heat
I yhink Michael Barone is Fox’s go to guy. He’s calling it now for Mitt,
And he’s ultraconservative.
Tie keeps viewership, and share.
I’ll go with a proven, non pollster, stat guy.... Michael Barone
