For more than 50 years, the black community has been the wholly owned subsidiary of the Democratic Party. That may be changing. In spite of the overwhelmingly liberal voting patterns of black voters, they are an essentially conservative community. Americans of African descent are more pro-life and pro-family than the average white voter and as conservative on social issues as any white evangelical.
Democrats have managed to monopolize the black vote in spite of the vast chasm between the two on social issues. This philosophical difference has become more pronounced in the past 20 years, as liberals have embraced far-left progressivism. Their view of social justice embraces the killing of an unborn child right up to the moment before birth. Indeed, President Obama, the iconic representative of the far left, believes that even a child born alive should be left to die without medical treatment if the mother intended an abortion. He championed this Mengelean position as a state senator in Illinois.
I was raised to be an FDR Democrat because my father was a young man during the Depression and credited President Roosevelt with saving him from starvation. The Republicans only care about rich people, I was told. This was more than 40 years ago. In spite of my childhood indoctrination, as a young man newly committed to my Christian faith, I had a crisis of conscience in the late 1970s. Massachusetts Democrat Barney Frank was pushing the homosexual agenda. How could I, as a Christian, be committed to a party led by Mr. Frank? In the end, I could not. My desire to be in a right relationship with God and my faith was greater than my desire to be approved by my father, my family or the black community. My wife and I, then Massachusetts residents, left

If only 5% - 10% defect this election, it will make a huge difference in the outcome. Add the same amount for Hispanics, and the same amount for those that voted for Obamagabe last time but have seen the light, and it is a landslide win for Romney.
Excluding a few persons such as this individual of knowledge, most blacks are firmly on the Democrat plantation and shall so remain.
Republican delusin is right. In 1976, some Republicans were even predicting that blacks would cast a majority of their votes for Ford. Carter knew not to get disturbed over that prospect.
Don’t blacks procure far more abortions per capita than whites?
I remember years ago when I was working for a previous employer. There was a young AA guy fresh out of getting his chemistry degree from a local university. He and I and another guy talked a lot about politics, and from an issues standpoint, this guy was right there with us, almost down the line. When you only talked about the issues and left Party out of it, he'd agree that we needed to cut taxes so that people could invest and save and improve the economy. He'd agree that people should be able to defend themselves legally with firearms. Right down the line.
But when the 2008 election rolled around, he "had" to vote for Obama "because he's a brother." That was it. End of story. No amount of reasoning about where the candidates stood on the issues could persuade him. He would just say, "Yeah, but Obama's a brother."
It was then and there that I decided that GOP outreach to the AA community at large was probably a waste of time and money.
I believe that is correct...that was Sanger’s original intent, if I am not mistaken.
Well stated, except I would add the Obamaphone (entitlements) to that trump card.
We still need for a significant portion of the rest to be attracted away in future elections before Democrats have reason to worry in the long run.
I'll believe it when I see it. I doubt Obama is much worried about these blocs today. So far he has no reason to be.
One this is absolutely certain. Nothing will change or imorove for African Americans until/unless there is some internal debate in the DNC.
They chould come on over to the RNC, we beat each other up all the time!
Do they have the courage??
It would seem to me the piece speaks about black voters, not the black community.
One wonders what percentage of the black community actually votes and has the conservative values noted.
You have achieved enlightenment...
Blacks will still vote for Obama because he is black. He’ll probably get 95% of their vote. Just hope a lot stay home.
“Blacks are abandoning the Democratic Party”
LOL, talk about “whistlin’ in the wind”....don’t hold your breath.
“Blacks are abandoning the Democratic Party”
Crappola,
Not as long as the dems give blacks a free ride through welfare their whole lives.
“obammy gave me a phone”.
Black Liberation Theology is pure communism. The difference between Blacks and Whites is they are communists and we are capitalists.
Pray for America
Exactly.
We’ve been reading about this supposed shift of blacks to the GOP since... well, since the 1970’s.
I’ve never, ever seen it materialize. Never. Not once, in any election.
LBJ knew what he was doing. His actions and propaganda surrounding the legislation the GOP carried across the finish line which LBJ signed into law with great fanfare (to the white-hot anger of Southern Democrats at the time) had the effect he predicted it would: It has kept blacks voting Democrat regardless of how poorly this policy works for the blacks.
Now, as to the assertion that blacks are more pro-life and more pro-family than the average white voter:
Yea, that’s what I see from the rate of illegitimacy in the black community - over 65%, right? That’s “pro-family” - as long as we define the word “family” to mean “the child never knew their father.”
I always wonder why the black population has put themselves in the position that they have. The democrats know they will always vote for them, so they never have to do any of the things blacks may want. The republicans know they will never vote for them, so they don’t have to do anything blacks may want. Of the two, which party still consistantly does more things that blacks agree with? School choice, no gay marriage and support of the second amendment are all issues republicans and blacks both support, yet blacks will vote democrat. They have, essentially, made themselves irrelevant as a voting block.
Further, whenever an issue comes up that blacks favor, but that another constituency of the democratic party is against, the party always favors the other constituency. They know they can ignore what the black population wants. School choice? Sorry, we favor the teachers union. No gay marriage? Sorry, we favor the small gay constituency. Support the second amendment? Sorry, we favor the small anti-gun crowd. It is all humorously sad.
If it does happen, which I doubt, it will be from 99.8% to 99.3% and that will be just because they hit the wrong button on the ballot screen.
