Some are saying that the replay should have reversed the call. In these plays, the replay cannot reverse the call. When you have a vet ref in the booth shocked at this call, that tells us all something.

Initial touching the ball is of no consequence. The play is alive until the player with ball possession hits the ground with his knees. The GB player was still upright when Tate grabbed the ball. When both players hit the ground, both payers still had their hands on the ball. The offense wins the possession.

Keep in mind its not a “catch” until both feet come down in the end zone.

The defender in this case did not have both feet down before the receiver gained partial control of the ball as they both landed on the ground. Only when they landed on the ground is a catch official and at THAT point there was a “simultaneous” catch and those go to the passing team.
It sucks, I’m not a fan of either team, but I believe the call was correct. Touchdown.
I don’t think it matters whether you have one hand or two hands possessing the ball. Either one counts as having possession. Many great catches have been made one handed. Only way it was interception by GB if Tate had no hands on the ball when the play ended with the player’s knees touching ground.

You are correct!
Just because the DB had the ball with two hands against his chest does not make it a catch. At that point he was still in the air. He needs to contact the ground before it "officially" becomes a catch.
When it because a "catch", the WR had joint possession of the ball. At that point, it became a touchdown.
It looks like a "catch" because they ran it in slow motion 17 times, so you think it is a catch because it appears the DB held on to the ball for awhile.
I'm a Steeler fan, and I don't have a dog in this fight. And to that the "real" refs probably gave my team a Super Bowl against these Seahawks due to poor officiating. I'm not saying the replacements are as good, but I think we all forget how bad the officiating is sometimes with the "real" refs.
NO)..if one has possession when he comes down, then that player is the player with possession. The GB player CLEARLY had possession all the way down and even had the ball after he hit the ground when the play is supposed to be dead.
You are correct about the simultaneous possession. It’s really a judgement call and the if both players possess the ball with both hands, it’s a TD in that situation because all the wrestling afterwards is too late if the receiver got two feet down with the ball in both hands.
The folks thinking worse call ever should go back and watch the dozens of uncalled Tuck Rule fumbles for years before instant replay, then consider how Walt Coleman overturned a judgment call in a playoff game because he was so caught up that there was a tuck rule that he didn’t stop to consider whether the QB’s non throwing hand touching the ball ends the forward pass process. Everyone on the field from both teams, everyone in the stadium, the announcers and a national tv audience all knew it was a fumble when it occurred. The correct call would have been to say there was No clear evidence that the call on the field should be overturned. Yes I am a Raiders fan, but if the call on the field had been incomplete pass I would have supported that, because if you don’t follow that credo, then basically every game is rigged..
The most essential element of officiating is not to overshadow the players on the field. The fact that Coleman was never assigned to a game in Oakland afterward shows that he had made himself bigger than the game by overturning that call. I see a lot of Walt Coleman in Chief Justice Roberts.
What you are overlooking is that the play is not dead until the ball possessor hits the ground with his knees. Tate had every right to grab the ball so long as the GB player was upright.
What happens if Green Bay gains a playoff spot and are screwed out of home field advantage because of this call? Or at least one home game because of it?
I would sue the holy hell out of the NFL!

Jennings catches ball. Jennings draws ball to chest and holds it into possession all the way to the ground. That has, until now, been ruled an interception.

The ruling has nothing to do with the player’s knees. Once the GB player (Jennings) feet came down and he had possession the play is over. I have no dog in this fight either way. That’s just the way I see it. The blatant offensive pass interference by Tate not being called is a joke! I know they allow a lot of contact on these “Hail Mary’ plays, but that was as blatant a OPI call as you will see. That should have negated the whole play anyway!
I blame unionism for all of this. The players, refs and staff should be free and independent. Big Labor thuggery, led by evil creatures such as Hoffa and Trumpka has infiltrated all aspects of American life. Unions are modern day slavery.
