Political reporters on Twitter are saying they are standing by for a Romney media availability on the video released today by Mother Jones of Romney at a May fundraiser speaking frankly of his thoughts on Obama's base voters and their entitlement mentality, aka the 47% who pay no federal income taxes.
The media and GOP-E have jumped ugly on Romney tonight.
Steve Holland, Reuters: Romney at press avail to respond to video says his comments weren't "elegantly stated," and "could have said it in a more effective way."
In a perfect world, yes, I’m with you. But the income tax has just about as much chance of being abolished as Roe v Wade has of being overturned.
I think he is doing it...the media would like us to believe he is not.
MSM is evidently a part of Obama campaign team. Not matter what Romney says, they will manage to report it in a negative way.
Well said, Sarah... I am outraged that 47% don't pay federal income taxes.
However... WHAT specifically is on this "video" Romney kept referring to?
Did a quick check of CNN and Lawrence "Creepy Liar" O'Donnell on MSNBC... so far they are having a field day over this Romney "gaffe":
O'Donnell said "Romney just lost the election to Obama".
British-accented infobabe on CNN called tonight "a momentous night of the campaign".
*sigh*
what are you ranting about ?
If the world were in the right place, anyone would be able to beat the marxist 95% to 5%! How that moron is neck-’n’-neck with ANYONE baffles me!
Freepers growl and complain and fuss and fight like siblings, but they have more passion in their little fingers than the general population in their collective bodies!
I actually think it’s healthy that we don’t walk in lockstep. :) Call me crazy......
And the ones who have to be, and who are trying to break out, know damn well Romney isn't talking about them. People who want to be independent are natural conservatives who will agree philosophically with what Romney said.
Part of the 47% — they are a part of the mix, but don’t necessarily want to be. A few years ago, I lost my job. I had to take a much lower salary than what could really sustain me. However, I never stoppped trying to get a better paying job. Now, I have one, but only beause I didn’t stop trying. Some people don’t want to try beause it’s more comfortable not to.
So the free loaders he's talking about don't really make up 47%?
Or is he suggesting those working who don't make enough to pay fed taxes, should start paying fed taxes? Raise taxes on the working poor? I can't believe that is what he's saying.
You are a moron on tax issues.
ALL income taxes are reported ON THE SAME FORM!
So, if 47% pay NO Income taxes?
They pay no:
Income tax on Labor (W-2)
Income tax on self Employment (Schedule C)
Income tax on dividends
Income tax on capital gains
Income tax on Social Security benefits.
Right...we’re in agreement.
lawrence is mentally ill and lunatic and so are the staff at cnn !
your worried about those crazies comments .
No he is not.
His ‘press availability’ should have been a you tube video release addressing the issue.
No reporters to play attack dog.
He should all but exclusively issue statements via you tube and only send out reps to TV/MSM requests.
Then, make his case at the debates in person. And of course his normal campaign stops. AND AT THOSE STOPS...take no questions from the press and in front of the cameras, refer the msm to his YT page.
Cut the bastards off at the knees.
“Maybe even some here at FR that say they will never vote for him, maybe this will push them over the top?”
NO!
We've had more than a few FReepers who had to be reminded of the federal structure with the states and federal government having different authorities, powers, responsibilities and limitations.
Then, there are those who imagine that since their overweight brother in law who was the county sheriff stole the public blind when he retired that every other government employee does as well.
So, you have a problem with that?
BTW, showing what a patriot you are you conveniently overlook the numerous times when I"ve shown you where the soft underbelly is and how to go after it and rip the guts out of a government program. Does that mean you like to provide deep cover for bad government programs?
Of course I like what Romney (supposedly) said, but it's not coming off well, from what I see... especially what I see on CNN and MSNBC. Grrr...
Liberal activist judge threw it out, for the time being, on "equal protection" grounds. Chicago teacher's union is striking to avoid accountability. IL state law set one mandatory standard for the rest of the state on teacher accountability, but left Chicago, only, with the option of half that standard. A conservative, or an anti-union, legal aide group - there are some - should file an equal protection lawsuit seeking to remove that Chicago loophole. They may not win (are there any conservative judges available to cherry pick in Illinois?), but the attempt would be well received outside of Cook County.
I recall Hillary mentioning it as well as McCain but to hear Chuck Todd make it sound as if it still haunts the President TODAY. I’ve haven’t heard the media bring it up in years.
You do realize why there is a distinction between ordinary income tax and capital gains taxes, don't you?
The latter has already been taxed at least once!
And "defeating the effect of personal income tax rates" on investment income isn't limited to just "the rich". A large number of middle class folks and retirees benefit, as well -- justifiably so.
Damn right it's time to end the class war...
