VA POLL. Romney leads Obama, Allen (R) leads Kaine (D) --9/8-9, LVs

A poll from Gravis Marketing and Capitol Correspondent released on Tuesday gives Republican Mitt Romney a five-point lead over Democrat Barack Obama in the Virginia presidential race, and also gives GOP Senate candidate George Allen a five-point lead over Democrat Tim Kaine. The poll differs significantly from recent polling in both races that had consistently given Obama a small lead over Romney for president and had the Kaine-Allen race a virtual deadlock. Gravis Marketing, in a press release on its poll, reported that it had polled Virginia in August and had measured a 44 percent-to-40 percent lead for Obama in the presidential race. Its Sept. 8-9 survey had the race at 49 percent for Romney and 44 percent for Obama. The Gravis Marketing August poll in the Senate race had given Allen a three-point lead and now has Allen ahead 47.8 percent to 42.5 percent.

I don’t think the liberals have been pushing macaca against Allen this time around. If he stays up in the polls, maybe they will revive it?

Good, I’ve been worried about OH and VA. The polling in VA looked the worst, so it’s nice to see him up.

anyone here sick of Joe Trippi giving Obama a five point lead in every swing state that has Romney ahead by 5 points?

All of these Virginia polls are not accurate, unless they include Virgil Goode in them, too. Virgil could end up getting enough total Virginia votes that Mitt Romney ends up not carrying Virginia, but, whether that, actually, happens or not, Virgil needs to be included in all Virginia polls, to see if there’s any, possible, Virgil “voting bump”.

As someone who spends a lot of time in the Old Dominion, I can tell you that anger against Obama is building in the state. Sequestration will mean the immediate loss of 200,000 defense jobs, mostly in Hampton Roads and the DC suburbs. The military vote will be out in force in places like Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, the Tidewater Peninusla and even parts of Norfolk and Portsmouth. Even with a large minority population in those two latter cities (along with Newport News and Hampton), I don’t see Obama carrying Hampton Roads again.

Meanwhile, Zero’s war on coal will cost him heavily in southwest Virginia, and other rural parts of the state are solidly red. So, Obama’s hopes rest with Richmond, any plurality he can muster in Norfolk and the DC suburbs. Obviously, there are a lot of federal works in those areas, but there are thousands of residents who work for defense contractors in the DC area. Most of them won’t be pulling the lever for Barry.

On Fox News there other day, Karl Rove said he had been talking to some experienced GOP hands in Virginia and they indicated the polls were breaking towards Romney and George Allen. This may be the first public confirmation of that trend. However, I’d feel a lot better if I could see the poll’s internals.

GravisVA was run with Mittens-Bobo-Johnslum-Other/Unsure: 48.31/43.05/3.81/4.82

So, yeah. Better luck next time...

They don’t give the D/R splits though.

The news from Virginia looks good.

Incidetnally, the Presidential and U.S. Senate races will mirror each other closely. It’s hard imagine someone who supports a Republican in one of these races switching parties in the other.

Look for an NBC-Marist poll on VA to come out shortly. I took a cell phone call and answered survey questions this afternoon on the way home from work.

Looks like things are going in the right direction for Romney in VA and NC finally. He needs to hold on them and just take back OH, FL and CO and 0bama will gone!

When Fox has Joe Trippi paired up with Rove to give comments about their electoral maps I tune Trippi out. He is another Juan Williams—totally predictable with his pro-Obama spin.

There could be a percent or two of Goode voters who would vote for Allen.

Ryan’s in Roanoke this evening for a big fundraiser - big bucks to get in - dinner, etc.

This is near me now that I’ve moved. This is definitely R & R country. I’ve seen a total of one Obama sign in the past week in all my local travels, which have been numerous. Ironically, it’s just around the block from me and is surrounded 360º by R & R signs. Brave soul, that one.
