Former Vice President Al Gore called for an end to the Electoral College tonight.
"It's always tough to amend the constitution, and very risky to do so," he said on Current TV, which he co-founded. "But I think its time, I think our country would be stronger and better if it went according to the popular vote."
In the 2000 presidential election, Gore won the popular vote but lost the electoral to George W. Bush.

Sounds like somebody knows Zippy ain’t getting 270...
The goreacle probably wants it to be retroactive.
Mr. Sex-Poodle hisself............
Algore should not be allowed to give his opinion on anything.
If Democrats were to do this in November, they will lose. With the completely exciting 2008 (for the Dems), they still only managed 53 percent. There is NO WAY they will get even close to that this round. There only hope is the electoral. Al Gore is one dumb guy. Although it would be nice to get rid of it just for 2012. I know we will win popular vote but not at all convinced we are going to win electoral so this might just be in our best insterest to say ok Dems lets give it a shot for this election only....
Just what we need...the East and West Coasts ruling us.
this just in....Steve Bartman calls for the elimination of the Fan Interference rule in baseball...
Same with Fred Thompson and former Michigan GOP chair, Saul Anuzis (Saul is running again BTW)
In other words, he supports voter fraud.
Here's my answer to the Algore ~ they go to "popular vote' then voting will become mandatory in Virginia. Plus we'll let folks vote via absentee ballot in each county and in person at each precinct.
I"ll put that VIrginia vote total up against the best New York, Texas and California combined ~
Getting rid of the Electoral College will mean turning over the presidency to about five of the most populated states. That was the reason for the EC, so that wouldn’t happen.
Al Gore has already given us the reason NOT to let go of the electoral college.
We do not need to have our rural areas give up even more power to the cities where they send food and energy.
Of course. If one were to look at past voting-by-county maps, he/she would see that probably a dozen (certainly less than a couple) comprise more than half the population of this country. These are ALL urban locations demographically infested by liberals, illegal immigrants and largely, victim groups. In short, they comprise a classical democratic majority, and their perverted ideals would rule over this country as Obama rules by Executive Order, against the US Constitution.
Without the Electoral College, interests of lesser populated regional areas that form this Union would be ignored. If you want mob rule, then you’re for a popular vote.
I say we just give him a lifetime free-meal pass to FatBurgers, Five Guys Hamburgers, or the Heart Attack Grill.
All Gore should spend less time in the Artic; his brain seesm frozen.
Oh, good Lord! Hasn’t he blown up yet? He looks like an illustration from “Froggie Goes A-Courting”.
In other words, given the opportunity, the Dems know they can manufacture enough fraudulent votes to steal elections if that messy Electoral system were simply taken out of the mix. Dems don’t like it when the “fly over States, (read states that don’t have enough potential for vote fraud) are given a say in government. In his mind, only New York, California, Illinois and the other states that are so stuck in debt they may never get out, are much wiser in terms of who should govern and should, therefore, be given exclusive power to decide who wins and who loses.
Of course he does. That way our elections will be decided by new york, los Angeles, and Chicago.
