GOP Rules Committee Rapidly Moving to Shut Out Grassroots at 2:00 p.m. Today (It's not over)
RedState ^ | Tuesday August 28, 2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/28/2012 7:31:55 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I’ve been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.

Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg’s effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee’s campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.

That issue appears resolved, but several people I’ve spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.

Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 o’clock.

The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, “With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. They’ll be able to get Ben Ginsberg’s proposal next year.”

In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they don’t have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. They’ll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.

The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

“You have to choose, if you refuse to stand up to the evil of Obama, you are with him.”

Actually you are wrong. I do not have to support any false dichotomy. I reject both of these morally abject, damned and corrupting parties and candidates.

I watched and laughed at the war reports from the Iran-Iraq war for 8 years. I will watch this battle of the empty suits for empty souls with the same level of amused indifference.

May both they and all of their supporters receive all that they have earned.

No! You are wrong! This wasn’t about the Paulbots! There were members and delegates from as far back as Goldwater and Reagan who are not Paulbots said specifically that this was upsetting grassroots and Tea Party members as well and had nothing to do with Paulbots but the future where the Tea Party will have influence. The GOPE throws out the red herring of the Paul supporters to focus the attention away from their true intention

Nah, by standing by with your eyes closed, you are really electing Obama, just as surely as if you pulled the D lever and voted straight Democrat. You cannot absolve yourself. If you are not part of the solution (defeating Obama) , you are part of the problem. if you think anything else, you are deluding yourself, just like the Germans, who shrugged and said that they couldn’t stop Hitler.

“GOPE throws out the red herring of the Paul supporters to focus the attention away from their true intention”

It is the old ‘Who killed Kirov?’ question from an older and more skilled cabal of totalitarians.

By the way, I think we can say that the Geriatric Old Plotters have now undermined representative government as much as any of the Democrats who deep sixed overseas military votes.

I am/was an early Tea Party adopter, hitting earlier “protests” here in Middle Georgia. That frothing horde of PAULBOTS do not speak for me.

My eyes are open. I see the cankers, suppurating sores and necrotic tissues in your face, your candidate’s face and your party’s face. I see the same on the Democrat side. They got there first, but you are all in the same condition now. All of you are rotting even as people watch.

I will not cozy up plague carriers. As I said originally, I will stand off and watch you disease vectors die slowly from the inside out. None of you want to be healthy, and I owe you nothing but the truth which has been delivered.

A system that can be destroyed by a Lightworker Hussein deserves to die.

A system that can only be saved by Bishop Willard does not deserve to live.

Update:

What follows is the exact wording of “Rule 12”, as best as I can determine at this time (gop.com does not seem to have this up at this time, which is probably a CYA maneuver):

“The Republican National Committee may, by three-fourths (3/4) vote of its entire membership, amend Rule Nos. 1-11 and 13-25. Any such amendment shall be considered by the Republican National Committee only if it was passed by a majority vote of the Standing Committee on Rules after having been submitted in writing at least ten (10) days in advance of its consideration by the Republican National Committee and shall take effect thirty (30) days after adoption. No such amendment shall be adopted after September 30, 2014.”

First, one (small) positive to be taken from this: A careful reading of this rule clearly indicates rule 12 itself cannot be changed. Why is this a positive? Because of the last line that reads, “No such amendment shall be adopted after September 30, 2014.”

Thus, we must be vigilant over the next two years, but only the next 2 years, not 4. That is, in the last 2 years, we can focus more on much more relevant concerns, such as holding Romney’s feet to the conservative fire (or if he looses, nominating a true conservative in 2016).

That’s the only real “positive” here, as far as I can see. This is, as feared, much more disastrous. After all, as is pointed out here: www.preservetheparty.com “A compromise is being reported that doesn’t fix the real problem. Rule 12 is reportedly still intact. With Rule 12 intact, the only thing preventing the RNC from adding back in the exact same language after the convention is a 3/4 vote. That looks high, but multiple RNC members have testified that it is not — the chair always gets what he wants if he wants it bad enough. Further, there’s no attempt to preserve the strength of the individual states. Vote strength at the convention is based on delegation size, but in the RNC it’s three for every state. If this change is adopted, small blue states will have the exact same voice and vote as Texas.

Note, at that same site (preservetheparty.com) there is also additional commentary from Morton Blackwell, who LLS mentioned previously, was on the Mark Levin show criticizing this “deal”.

Bottom line? IMO, it’s as said elsewhere: We now have to be as vigilant towards the RNC as the DNC (if not more so IMO, since complacency on our part is a real danger with the RNC).

Second “bottom line” (IMO): It would be, at this time, presumptuous and too risky to think of a third party jump, HOWEVER, this disgrace of clear elitist influence makes it, IMO, only “presumptuous” by the THINNEST of margins.

Again, we must NOW police the RNC VERY CLOSELY, and make our voices heard with regularity and force against any rule changes that could favor an elitist candidate such as Romney in the future (again presuming he doesn’t win this year).......

...these are my thoughts now, given the state of this insanity, now. May change in the future. Any rule change under this new rule (12) that would favor a “backroom deal” type of candidate, an “elitist” candidate, would be, IMO, the last straw. It would destroy any semblance of “place” a true conservative voice could, or would expect in the GOP. At that time, the only reasonable option would be a third party, as the last vestige of “conservatism” in the GOP would be destroyed.

“I am still just horrified at what we just witnessed awhile ago. Pure tyranny from the establishment”

I agree. I am so shocked and dissolusioned (sp?) right now, I can’t even watch the convention. I saw Boehner a little while ago and got “little pukes” in my mouth.

Why onthis earth does the GOP have to let Paul into this process when he clearly is not a republican is beyond me, but saying that they also let queers in now to spew their own agenda.

There's no way on earth that mitt is a Republican either. He's even more liberal than paul and his tards. mitt is the one letting in the queers.

Conservatives don't have a party right now. Well actually we do, but it's not R or D.

And they'll nod politely and then rule by decree. The RNC is now officially an incorrigible child. If it doesn't like the rules, it'll change them until Moderate Mitt gets what he needs.

We have no power to hold anyone’s feet to the fire. There is no rule of law... boehner proved that today when he broke every rule of decorum and Robert's Rules of Order when he stole the vote away from the majority of those dissenting... with the declaration over the cat calls of those voting no... with a unanimous consent lie.

We cannot do anything before November... I can deny the gop/e my vote for romney and as of now... I cannot see how I can vote for that pos, progressive baby killing, gun grabbing, election stealing, cheater, liar and thief. Fortunately in Mississippi... all of my candidates are far to the right of any of the gop/e. They are not perfect but all but thad cochran are good people... and thad retires in two years... or we can his sorry liberal arse.
