GOP Rules Committee Rapidly Moving to Shut Out Grassroots at 2:00 p.m. Today (It's not over)
RedState ^ | Tuesday August 28, 2012 | Erick Erickson

At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I’ve been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.

Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg’s effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee’s campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.

That issue appears resolved, but several people I’ve spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.

Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 o’clock.

The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, “With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. They’ll be able to get Ben Ginsberg’s proposal next year.”

In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they don’t have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. They’ll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.

The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

You are a progressive drone. Go listen to Mark Levin right now. He has a man that worked with him with Reagan and has been an activist for 48 years... he has served on the rules committee several times... and his name is MORTON BLACKWELL and he has confirmed that boehner ignored a majority that were against this rules change and he proclaimed a unanimous vote for change... over the loud objections in the hall. You are no better than obama. Morton Blackwell just called you a liar... he said this had less to do with Paul and has been romney’s plan since day one. Mark vouches for him... and that trumps you by a power of 10!

Another Doomsday cultist! Good for you, do you have a space ship ready, or are you just going to hunker down in your bunker?

I always thought that there was some similarity between Ron Paul and Marshall Applewhite. It’s more than just that crazy look in the eyes.

My Gawd.

We are men without a political party.

Both parties are bound and determined for pure tyranny.

People may want to challenge the next President (Romney) and may be unable to do so fairly, that’s what I’m concerned about. - Mark Levin.

Bottom line, that’s the whole point.

Well, I won’t be volunteering now. Just don’t feel like it anymore knowing that the GOPe takes my vote for granted. They don’t want us Tea Party Conservatives, heck they don’t want Conservatives at all.

Way to go GOPe, you just dampened the enthusiasm of the people that you really NEED to get Odummer out of office. Replace one tyranny with another? Why even bother to have state conventions? Heck, why even bother with primaries? Just have the washington belt insiders tell the Republicans who to vote for.

I won’t be watching now either. STUFF IT RNC.

My conservative friend who is a reporter and who is at the convention just answered. Was unaware of this all. Pointed him to Levin’s guy, Morton Blackwell. He should be writing about this. He’s interested.

If the country elects Romney, we will survive to have another election.

Yea but look right here on this thread. There are GOP apopogists mocking us for stating the obvious. The gen pub will never grasp what this really means.

Of course there wont be one. There HASN’T been one since REAGAN!

But people cling to a fantasy and thing the Blue Fairy will make them a real boy if they say it enough times.

“Romney may not be great, but he is ALL we’ve got, our last hope.”

You got less chance than a Massachusetts fetus if Willard is all you’ve got.

How did I know a long time ago that I couldn’t trust Romney? This is sickening.

He lost his base... Morton Blackwell just spilled the beans about the gop on Mark Levin's show. He has been a grass roots activist for 48 years and he and Mark both worked for Reagan. He also said this had less to do with Paul and more to do with cementing a progressive party and centralized control for the gop for decades. Mark also said that boehner must never be allowed a position of power again. Strong words. Mark just said that there are no REAGANITES left... at least that there are none in Tampa in positions of power.

Ah, another doomsdayer! I’ll ask you the same question, do you have a space ship arriving, or are you just going to hunker down in your bunker and wait for the end?

LMAO...that’s good. Don’t worry, the loud shouts are a loud Paulian minority. Not unlike the Romney haters in here.

Talk about not having the commons sense to see the forest for the trees......or better they can’t have a navy of ships, because none of them are perfect and unsinkable, so just scrap them all.

Boehner overruled Morton Blackwell (old guard GOP committee member) saying there were no objections, even though, clearly there were..

We just did in this election show. This just makes it easier to do via emails and phone calls.
