GOP Rules Committee Rapidly Moving to Shut Out Grassroots at 2:00 p.m. Today (It's not over)
RedState ^ | Tuesday August 28, 2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/28/2012 7:31:55 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I’ve been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.

Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg’s effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee’s campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.

That issue appears resolved, but several people I’ve spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.

Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 o’clock.

The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, “With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. They’ll be able to get Ben Ginsberg’s proposal next year.”

In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they don’t have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. They’ll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.

The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

Romney should have intervened in a way that showed he valued conservative voices too. He had a chance to LEAD. He still does but at this point it’s a Hail Mary pass.

Why not? They just proved conclusively their own ‘laws’ are meaningless in party...why should any other hold sway? The party is the highest authority.

Laz, my FRiend, people DO get the government they deserve. And after attacking actual conservatives the way they have, I hope the brown stuff on their (GOP sycophants) collective nose never leaves them and stinks up whatever room they inhabit.

If you've got Romney's ear, or in any way can message him about this meaningfully so he sees it, you gotta let him know how much damage this has done to his rep in the conservative sphere. He's gotta do something about these rules that allow conservative voices to be part of the nomination process.

And that cheap stunt by Boehner was hideous. Nays carried it and (purportedly) he still ruled yea. That's gotta get overturned.

I don't buy that. There's a lot of great people in the USSR who suffered under communism. Ditto Cambodia. Ditto Cuba.

We are good people who believe in the Constitution and Liberty. But we will be made to suffer under this tyranny as well.

I don’t have Romney’s ear or any connection to him, I’m an ABO, Anyone But Obama voter.

The Romney haters are like a doomsday cult, that wants to take the whole world down with them. Romney may not be great, but he is ALL we’ve got, our last hope. Hope, remember that? not faith, just hope. I don’t want to go down with the doomsday cult.

Well Romney just tipped his hand. He's no solution. None whatsoever.

And I was edging closer to voting for him, what with the Ryan pick, too.

The Dark Side won. Hey, it was a hell of a run. We lasted, what, about 200 and 20 years or so?

Mark Levin is speaking with a grass roots activist that he worked with during Reagan's tenure. You need to listen live now. This is just as bad as it appears. The man just said, "This is the worst decision of the republican party in my 48 years with them. This centralizes control of the party and shuts out the citizens from their party. This is a communist move straight from stalin.

Time to call Jabba, get a couple liberal slave girls and ...wait for it....

Nah...too obvious ;)

Seriously though, Yes there are good people. But there were good people in Herod/Caesar et all’s time too. They got the shaft. Now history repeats. And eventually from the coollapse, the natural order will rise again. But not in out lifetime Laz. And that is the ugly but simple truth.

It doesn’t make any difference to me — I wasn’t going to vote for the S.O.B. anyway. Romney/Obama, Obamney, Robama, whatever, you can’t tell ‘em apart in a dark room. This is just another reason to vote for the person (not neccesarily the candidate) you feel is best qualified for the job.

Whichever candidate wins the Presidency, we Americans are going to lose. Voting for either of them is tacit approval of whatever they do. They’ll do it but you will have enabled and approved it with your vote.

Enjoy your descent into Socialism. You’ve earned it!

Vote Sarah Palin. Your vote may not count for her but at least it won’t count against you!

Mark Levin’s exactly right. He guesses that Romney is planning to implement things like immigration and replacing Obamacare with a system like Mass. This is why he wants it to be hard for someone to challenge him in 2016, should he win.

I have a wonderful conservative FB friend who’s a reporter, who’s at the convention. I asked him to please do some digging and to drop a few hints in the ears of a few powerful people, Romney is LOSING HIS BASE.

LOL! That's okay. Close enough. Besides, I am the typo queen. ;-)

BTW, I did a google search and can find nothing on any "Federal internet and texting fee" that was being discussed, so I don't know what that was about (guess I should pay closer attention), but what piqued my interest was the discussion about the government's ability to declare martial law and cut off our means of communication. That is seriously scary, especially with a person such as we have in office.

It’s actually referred to as “democratic centralism”; it was (and still is) a key component of Leninism. Indeed, the Bolshevik Revolution would have never happened if it wasn’t for this key concept. The “democratic” aspect of this method describes the freedom of members of the political party to discuss and debate matters of policy and direction, but once the decision of the party is made by a majority vote, all members are expected to uphold that decision. This latter aspect represents the “centralism” part of the equation. As Lenin put it, democratic centralism consisted of “freedom of discussion, unity of action.”

Wonder where all the people who had a fit when some of us questioned Mark for his support.

Also wonder if he will continue to support the GOP in light of this. If he does, it will be obvious where his alligence really lies.
