At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. Ive been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.
Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsbergs effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominees campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.
That issue appears resolved, but several people Ive spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.
Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 oclock.
The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. Theyll be able to get Ben Ginsbergs proposal next year.
In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they dont have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. Theyll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.
The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

How many times do we allow the gop/e to kick us in the balls before we have the right to go off “half cocked”?

“All the so called Freepers that bashed the hell out of those of us who stuck to principle OWN THIS.”
I agree. My head got bloody from the bashing because I told the truth about Romney. They had a glorified vision of Romney in their mind that he was their savior. A vision is not truth. Today was the truth of Romney and it was no vision, it was real.
Thank you for that information Marcella.
To everyone reading: I don’t know what to make of this yet. I have to educate myself further. I have been at work, and this came out of left field.
I have a sense that the “regular Joe” got screwed over in a big way today, but I can’t go with just that.
Quite frankly, this is a precipitous time in our country; and just when there seemed to be some semblance of unity (of purpose at least) this blows up in our collective faces.
The only thing I’m left with now (in my state of shock) is a hope that it’s not as bad as it seems. Basically this fervor (rightly or wrongly) seems to be stoked by a handful of bloggers.
Now that doesn’t mean it’s “wrong” to be angry about these changes, but if we are seriously going to start talking about a third party option down the road, based on what happened today, we’d better have more of a reason than simply because Michelle Malkin said this rule is bad.
We’d better know why rule 12 is bad, based on our own reading of it, and be prepared to explain why this makes any grassroot effort in the GOP impossible, or nearly impossible.
Otherwise, we may be “rebelling” against one group of “elites” to serve another.
Just my two cents. I’m going to continue to gather some more facts...
“All the so called Freepers that bashed the hell out of those of us who stuck to principle OWN THIS.
And I hope they choke on it.”
Ah, but the lickspittle party toadie is so adept at swallowing. They’ll swallow anything.
This is all about the PAULTARDS...
They are going to embarrass us on the Convention floor.
They are so sycophantishly stupid, they will cheer RP, RP right through Romney’s speech.
But RP is smart enough to know that the great conservative weakness, is that we are easily divided. So, he will have his puppets protest so that the Lib Media has their GOP dissension story.
The Liberaltarians are dividing the conservatives now.
Mark my words. Their next move is to attack anyone calling for a new party to form following this election.
Bank on it. Invest in it. Expect high rate returns.
I have been torn to my soul in what to do about voting for romney. Jim's plea made me pray harder for guidance than I have for many years. Then this happens and I see no future for America with this bunch or criminals. The gop/e and the dim party should be prosecuted and jailed under the RICO Act.

Add me hoss!
RIGHT ON!

Ping me when you finish it.

I need proof of this. If this is true, then Republicans have ZERO moral authority to EVER criticize OTrauma for ruling by edict.
There's utterly no point to role calls if they are going to rule their desired way, despite the actual vote.
This is Pelosi material. This is "we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it" material. This is .... straight-on tyranny.
Finally, someone gets it. Thank you. This IS all about the Paultards. This was planned well in advance and the conservatives should have known about the plan. I did. Rush didn’t even understand what was going on and neither did Michelle Malkin. She was the key note speaker at our state convention when the Paulers tried a similar trick, dragging out the convention until everyone had lost interest.
Paul succeeded, he got his face on all the cameras instead Romney’s.
Hell, we've gone so far down the path of true tyranny, I bet arrests will happen.
Oh, please, I don’t want to hear it. You and your Romney hating friends were just as happy to see Ron Paul destroy the party and delay the nomination of Romney.
Whine all you want, but you know that it’s true.
I am an Anyone but Obama voter and proud of it. This is the most important election of my lifetime and it is not a matter of who we vote for, but an election of who we defeat. If the country elects Romney, we will survive to have another election. If we elect Obama, this country will be unalterably changed and we may never have the chance for another real election.
Well, along the same lines, we can be thankful that Hitler only wanted to round up the CORRUPT Jews, right?
Because by your own admission, this will crush the conservative voice.
GOOD!
Let them hold their own primaries for some ambiguous wishy-washy position candidates.
Noble thoughts, but I suspect you are about 16 years too late. The country looks signed-sealed-delivered to the statists, and either the socialists or the communists. Obama will get us there in four. Romney will get us there in 8.
Nah, not crush it, just make it a little more difficult. Admittedly, it’s a trade off. This was an uncomfortable choice, side with the Paulers, who hate us and would rather see Obama win, or side with the RINOs, who are more afraid of us than hate us.
There is real hate in the minds and hearts of the Paulers. You could see it Ron Paul’s eyes when he looked at Santorum. The man is evil.
And Ron Paul? Ron Paul will get us nowhere and Obama will take us down the tubes.
Romney is all we have got, our last hope, and this stunt by the Paultards might be just enough to dampen the Romney support and allow Obama to be re-elected.
I hope that all the Paultards on FreeRepublic are pleased with themselves.
I hear that Obama was up nine points today, by the time Romney was nominated.
