West Nile Virus
it’s George Bush’s fault.
The next pandemic that will kill us all if we don’t spend copious amounts o tax dollars, like bird flu, pig flu, ebola and all those other genocidal bugs that killed billions and billions!
//sarcasm
Meanwhile you seem to never hear from the CDC regarding Aids, and all the venereal diseases in epidemic proportions out there.
Or the fact that TB is being brought in from Mexico by illegal aliens.
Tape worms and leprosy bring brought here by the illegals too.
He was sick for a day or so, and is back to work. Not that bad.
HA
lol
It’s a virus
It was found in the West Nile
It made the trip to America about a decade ago
It sucks to get, but it’s not that fatal
And it’s frequently over hyped
Frankly, if there isn’t a widespread MSM and government announcement of people rising from the dead and wanting to eat your brain (backed up of course by news footage), I don’t believe a damned thing the CDC issues whatsoever.
I took their damned Swine Flu vaccine in the late 70s and it screwed me up for years with pleuresy, etc. Never again.
They are POLITICAL - DEMOCRAT PARTY LINE....doctors citing disturbing statistics on guns in the home and claiming it is a “health problem.” Domestic tranquility is a health problem (wife-beating) as opposed to a criminal problem, CO2 is a health problem, oil is a problem, Islam is a blessing, and on and on and on...
These ‘doctors’ are all politifiles living in Druid Hills of East Atlanta near Emory...I used to live there. They are coddled politcal animals just jonesing for more funding. The only sane group associated with them is the Yerkes Primate Centers, and I’m talking about the primates - not the doctors.
They can stick their flu shots up their ass.
there is no one left to warn. we all died from that bird flu thing several years ago.
Some believe that Alexander The Great died in Egypt of West Nile Virus.

Hi Bob —
Others undoubtedly know more than me about this dangerous disease. But, since my Mother-in-Law died from it in 2002, I know a little which I can share.
West Nile Virus is a rapid, debilitating disease which is carried by mosquitoes. It has been a problem for horses for many years. While it is true that the healthy, robust individual has a strong enough immune system to repel the disease, the young, old, infirm, and those with a low immune system are not able to combat it. In the situation of my M-I-L, she was discovered catatonic on a Thursday morning, and she passed on Sunday. She was 77 years old, and a retired nurse in apparent good health. The last two days she fell into a coma. WNV attacks the central nervous system, and one infectious disease doctor told me it was a similar to meningitis. The CDC confirmed WNV two days after her death. I suppose it really does take that long for a culture to grow in a Petri dish. Regardless, there was (and maybe still is not) no known treatment other than providing comfort.
It is s wicked disease. I don’t envy anyone who contracts it.
Im told by knowledgeable friends that it is more widespread this year because of the mild Winter that we had last year. Insects and their offspring were not killed by a hard freeze in many areas of the country.
Also, having a daughter in Dallas that has begun spraying because of the dozen or so deaths, gives cause for attention. She informs me that media there has reported that the spraying is done annually in Houston.
Hopefully this info helps. If any is incorrect, I would ask our colleagues to correct it.

There are several cases of it here and two have died of it here in the past few days. One elderly but don’t know about the other.
A friend is the head of ER at Peter Smith in Fort Worth.
He has been seeing many cases, but the only worrisome ones are the usual “very young, very old, or pre-existing conditions.”
I’m in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, where apparently we’re leading the country in W. Nile Virus. Numerous cases of it, and some fatalities. Aerial and ground spraying is underway.
I have a co-worker that had flu like symptoms and called in sick. Then called in sick a the next couple days thereafter... eventually when his boss called on him he was so sick that 911 was called on his behalf. The co-worker just assumed he had the flu (this was before W. Nile was becoming news) and tried to tough it out. Once hospitalized it was found that he had West Nile and developed encephalitis. He’s been out for about 2 months now and not expected to return for a few months more as he goes through rehab.
Amazing to think a stupid little mosquito could drastically alter your life or even end it.
However, some populations are at greater risk of death or complications: The more severe outcomes of WNV infection are clearly associated with advancing age[27] and a patient history of organ transplantation[28] and diabetes[citation needed]. A genetic factor also appears to increase susceptibility to West Nile disease. A mutation of the gene CCR5 gives some protection against HIV but leads to more serious complications of WNV infection. Carriers of two mutated copies of CCR5 made up 4.0 to 4.5% of a sample of West Nile disease sufferers, while the incidence of the gene in the general population is only 1.0%.[29][30]

So, if one is elderly, immune compromised, had an organ transplant, diabetes (possibly) and things like that, maybe they should be careful about getting bitten by mosquitos. That's really all you can do anyway.
I live in a republican governed county outside of Houston and my neighborhood is sprayed twice a week, all summer, to control mosquitoes. They do a pretty good job and we are not swarmed by them, but know enough to go inside in the evening if they do begin to show up. If we are at a ball game we use repellant - Houston is notorious for not using tax dollars well so they are playing catch up to attempt to control the problem
I’m sorry to hear about your Mother in Law. BTW I have family in the Dallas area and was pretty unhappy to learn that the there was a threat of a lawsuit to stop the spraying. Fortunately it did not stop them and did not materialize.
