A "write-in candidate" is a person:
Frequently asked questions on write-in candidates
Can a write-in candidate be on a primary election ballot?
No. (Section 115.453 (5) RSMo)
If a candidate runs in a primary election and loses, can the person run in the general election for the same office?
No. If a candidate files for nomination to an office and is not nominated at a primary election, that candidate cannot file a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for the same office at the general election. (Section 115.453(4) RSMo)
Are write-in candidates posted at the polling place?
No. The election authority shall furnish a list to the election judges and counting teams prior to Election Day of all write-in candidates who have filed a declaration of intent. (Section 115.453(4) RSMo)
Surely there is someone of good repute in the MO Senate or House can run and win. Surely. Anyway, how can Akin continue to campaign with no money? Also, I’d think that Romney would have assured the guy a plum ambassadorship by now to get him to quit. What does he gain himself by staying in and losing?
How about Libertarian canidate?
The Libertarian guy is a pro-choice marijuana activist. Better to pick our own.
“Looks like Akin is staying in, might as well start exploring other options.”
How about supporting Rep. Akin? After all, he is pro-life, genuinely conservative, and a far sight better than Claire McCaskill. Also, he won the primary!
That may be the best bet given Akin's refusal to put the nation above his ambition.
Good thinking. Or at least, a write-in campaign may be our least-bad option.
Hey, it worked, unfortunately, in Alaska for Lisa Turdbronski. But Alaska is much more of a red state, so relatively few voters there were inclined to vote Democratic. In contrast, Missouri is barrrrely red, having gone to McCain in 2008 by only 0.1%.
My point is that, when one must resort to a write-in, one must
1. figure on losing a lot of the votes one WOULD have gotten, as an on-the-ballot, major-party candidate; and
2. conduct an exhaustive “voter education campaign,” like Turdbronski did in Alaska.
So, yeah, write-in is the way to go ... but it won’t be an 11% win, or perhaps will be a loss, thanks to Akin’s idiocy and selfishness. :/
It’s not just that he’s going to lose; he’s going to drag other candidates down with him.
The various GOP candidates need an “out” that let’s them get back on message. Getting a solid Conservative, one who isn’t an undisciplined loose cannon, to announce as a write in gives them someone else to publicly endorse and even throw money at in a substance over symbolism way.
Robert Stacey McCain on his twitter page has hinted Koch brothers may fund them if Akin doesn’t get out.
There are precincts in St. Louis that routinely turn in more ballots than registered voters, and they turn them in very late so they know how many votes they need to manufacture.
The write in candidate had better be named Ted Poe (or something likewise easy to spell) as unlike Alaska we are not likely to find a sympathetic judge to count votes for Murkilowski, Morkuwsi, Muckorski, and Muckalowski in our favor.
Under those rules, Brunner and Steelman are out as write-ins.
The only ones who could win a write in would be Bond, or Talent or Ashcroft.
Big name recognition.
The only ones who could win a write in would be Bond, or Talent or Ashcroft.
Constitution party?
The NRSC denied funds to the AK GOP primary winner, Joe Miller in favor of rino Murkowski
The NRSC also backed rino Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio.
The NRSC yesterday denied funds to Todd Akin.
I see a pattern.
I agree. Ram this right down the throats of the democrats. I am tired of having our guys walk on eggshells trying not to offend people. This is pure Alinsky. They are beating us will our own virtue. It is a war we cannot win.
Time to change the rules of political combat. We need a collective show of “I don’t give a crap” to the democrats on this one. The more we do this, the more it weakens one of their most powerful weapons. I wished Cain would have done that.
Even if Akin turns out to be a complete dud, he is still better than a democrat. It’s time for offense not defense.
