An NRSC source just confirmed to me what various outlets have been reporting: if Todd Akin remains the senate candidate, NRSC will invest no financial resources into the Missouri senate race. Previously, NRSC had planned to spend $5 million.
And Crossroads has already taken some TV ads off the air, reports Politico.
If Akin does remain in the race, hes going to be relying, it appears, virtually exclusively on whatever his campaign raises, without any financial help from outside groups.
Whether Republican or Democrat, politicians are members of the “Political Class”—more a warning label than an occupational designation.
The Democrat’s would LOVE to fight a battle getting deep into the process of what does or does not constitute “legitimate” rape, that is a conversation they win 100/100 times, at this point discussing anything besides the economy is pretty much a win for them.
YOU ARE A 100% RIGHT.
WHAT HE SAID WAS TRUE.
ALL THOSE FREEPERS AND GOOD REPUBLICANS SHOULD HONOR ONE WHO SPEAKS THE TRUTH.
I WEAR A BRACELET THAT SAYS,”THE MORE I KNOW PEOPLE,THE MORE I LOVE MY DOG”.
He has 24 hours to withdraw, otherwise he’s on the ballot permanently and no candidate can replace him.
If he drops out republicans can say “Unlike the democrats who allow Biden to make racist remarks and keeps him on the ticket, we do not want idiots running as one of us.”
The goal of the Tea Party is to start by cleaning house on the GOP side by ridding the party of corruption, poor candidate, lack of inner strength and general stupidity.
Akins is disqualified by at least two of these goals.
“Ignorance, cowardice...what a bunch of heros we have here.”
Nail meet hammer.
Romney’s position is that abortion should be limited to rape and incest.
It sounds like all Akin did was run with that and explain that “rape” means when a woman is sexually assaulted—taken against her will (like Clinton’s many victims).
It sounds like he was addressing the many young career `Elaines’ (Seinfeld) who consider men as “sponge-worthy,” or not.
When her birth control fails and she decides to use the ultimate “birth control” she salves her conscience by telling the people at the child-murdering clinic, “Oh yeah, uh, I was raped. (That’s the ticket: He `raped’ me for six weeks. Then he left me. For a `nice’ girl, the b*****d.)”
“Legitimate rape.” We’re all grownups here; at least I knew what he meant.
He’s getting mau-mau’d and the GOP is caving—as usual. Yep, Republicans have balls the size of BBs.
How many Freepers (Texans don't count) even remember Clayton Williams?
“Romneys position is that abortion should be limited to rape and incest.”

How evil, pray for Romney’s conversion. Life begins at
conception, God creates a brand new person with a body and a soul.
There are no exceptions for abortion, it is an intrinsic
evil. Abortion is the #1 reason for God’s just judgment coming down on our country and the world.
So you’re argument is that as the Democrats support a total moron as a candidate, we should too?
The party won't necessarily slate the runner-up from the primary. Oberweis came in 2nd in a field of 8 Republicans during the 2004 U.S. Senate race here in Illinois, and the party wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. (we eventually ended up with Alan Keyes as the "replacement", like 2 monthes after Jack Ryan dropped out of the race)
Happens with House races too. When Tim Baldermann dropped out of the 11th District U.S. House in 2008, they didn't slate the runner up from the primary (Terry Heenan). Instead, the party leaders selected Marty Ozinga, the nephew of a former State Senator, because he was a wealthy buisnessman and could self-finace a general election campaign.
On a personal note, I would prefer Steelman over Brunner (she should have been the nominee in the first place), but this is a real cluster%^&#
“This is the same NRSC that endorsed Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio.
In other words, they’re the reason I quit giving to the Republican party and now only give to individual candidates.”
**************************************************************
Yes, that’s the reason I take that (individual candidates) approach. My decision to do that pre-dated the Rubio-Christ race. It went back to when the NRC intervened in a Congressional primary race (between a big-time RINO and a true-conservative primary). The RINO had plenty of national Republican money to slime and tell lies about his challenger. The RINO lost the primary and went on to endorse and campaign for the Democrat in the race. The Democrat won in a close race in the general. Two years later the same true conservative came back to defeat that Democrat and restore “balance to the universe”. The national Republican establishment later did the same in New York state with similar results.
The national Republican groups continue to barrage my family with phone calls and mail despite our repeated (and patient) calm explanations of why they’ll never see another penny from us. That could change of course should a miracle occur and they change their ways. It sure doesn’t look like it.
...and for those calling us COWARDS:
Yeah, I know what he meant, but he should have been smart enough not to even take such a baited question. Then when making what ‘may have seen to have been a blunder’, he should have IMMEDIATELY cleared it up - and not waited for the firestorm FROM HIS OWN SIDE.
Then he was supposed to be on KMOX to clear it up but, no. Let’s go on Huckabee’s show to do it. The only thing he did was to help Huck’s ratings.
Folks, I live in WNY, but was listening the Rush sub out of KFI in LA. It’s the TOP of every radio station news, and such a slow pitch over home plate that the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue had to jump in about it (oh yeah - something to change the subject, THANK YOU!)
This guy could have cleared this up within 60 mins after the it was said, and a clarification WAS in order.
He didn’t.
He campaign funds will dry up overnight.
The write-in campaign for a replacement begins oh say... right after the evening news in St Louis.
...and he’ll have a come to Jesus moment over dinner with the wife and kids tonight. Only question is will it be before or after the Romney phone call.
- I’m out (and so is Akin)
Missouri Republican Party leadership I assume. They aren't going to have another primary.
This is the whole point. Bad enough that he got confused or mis-spoke or whatever it was that he did when speaking about rape itself. Then he piles on when he says a woman’s body can somehow figure out which way to sort it all out...OMG.
I don’t want him waiting until tomorrow- by then the talking points are settled fact. My preference is he resigns TODAY.
Regardless of whether it’s fair or not- we all know there are standards for the right and none for the left- that’s the way it is. I don’t like it- it’s immoral and absurd- but it’s reality.
So IL Republicans had an Ozinga in the 11th CD and a Zinga in the 17th CD?
what evidence was there they would give him anything any way?
‘Eff the NRSC. I hope Akin toughs it out.
I don’t know about “evidence” but the article says that:
“Previously, NRSC had planned to spend $5 million.”
The factual things he said were true. As for values, the baby hasn’t committed a capital crime.
“Stupid” is often shorthand for “I’m too much of a coward to stand up to liberal mau mauing.”
