Santa Fe believes the children are its future, and as such, its leaders say they are listening very seriously to a group of students who are urging the city to ban plastic bags in grocery stores and other places that use them. The kids have solid reasoning as one fifth-grader said, "Stop using plastic bags and help everybody in the universe including people who are going to be alive in the future."

Where do these kids “learn” this garbage? That’s where the problem begins.
"Gee..everyone I know lives in the Universe!"
“Where do these kids learn this garbage?”
They’ve been brainwashed by their liberal, ivory tower professors, many of whom have never produced a tangible product or provided a useful service in the real world.
I just wanna live long enough to see all these wingnuts just disappear. Every liberal, every tree-hugger, every Marxist feminist, every kooky Harvard professor, and every one of their media lickspittles.
Ban stores. Then you won’t need bags to put merchandise in.

It was the previous idiots who got paper replaced with plastic. They are never satisfied.
Excuse me pal, but the least time I vacationed on Trayvon 5 (like how I worked that in?) they use ONLY plastic!!! So there!
Shhh Don’t give them any ideas. (not kidding)
@Dapper If their moon bat parents don’t get ‘em, the school system will.
@ my fellow poop scooper They don’t plan on us having dogs/ pets much longer. It’s “inhumane”, you know. /s
And if cannabis (is there another species of suitable hemp, would someone kindly
let me know?) were legal for manufacturing, we wouldn’t be having this- or the tree hugger conversation.
These bags were their (ilk’s) idea in the first place.
You know, I’m all for “children are our future” and all that, but I am sure am tired of kids having this sense of self-importance all because they make great tools for the left. These little self-designated morally superior snots are just annoying, and would be embarrased if they only understood that they’re just brainwashed useful idiots. At least I hope they would be. They’re usually so blinded by their own brilliance they can’t see anything but their own halos.
I just saw some of this type on “Shark Week” pontificating in all their teenage wisdom about the misunderstood, kindly shark and how we awful evil humans just need to “co-exist” with them. There’s that word again, “co-exist”. Another perfectly good word co-opted into meaningless mush by the left and these little brats who repeat things like trained parrots.
Yup. Cause their "causes" usually are cleverly-disguised methods of separating America's vast population of rubes from their hard-earned cash.
We live near Pasadena, CA - ‘the Occupied Territories’ I call it - where plastic bags are banned. Now, I can drive two miles west and get my groceries in them, and I can drive two miles east and get plastic bags. But in the sanc timonious city of Pasadena, I can NOT get my groceries in plastic bags. That’s #1 Stupid Thing. #2 is - I could actually buy them at Amazon for $15/5000 and either sell them in front of the stores where it’s illegal to get them, or distribute them free to other ‘inmates.’
Consequences, of course - when I absolutely have to shop in Pasadena, I buy just enough to carry in my arms. If I really want to shop for the week, I drive two miles to the Free Zone and load up. I use, of course, more fossil fuel - and gladly - in order to do this.
It’s Liberal Logic (and I use the term loosely) at its very best. Kind of like letting Brazil drill oil and pollute their waters so as to keep the Gulf pure.
I said that trees give us paper, wood, and other things, and after the trees are cut down new ones are planted so we would have more trees.
He may not have caught on completely but I'm working on him.
Sorry, ain’t gonna happen.
“Liberalism” is the political expression of the religion of humanism, which began with the lie “you will be as gods, knowing good and evil” and will only end when its author is banished to the pit forever.
When you are old (and yes, if you are fortunate, some day you will be) you will get to tell your grandkids about how the grownups in your life sold you all down the river with lies.
These kids don’t know any better. They are regurgitating the idiocy fed to them in the state schools.
If my kid tackled me with that, my first question would be, ok, are you going to take on buying with your money the replacement bags? And are you going to wash them? And when the dog poops, how are you going to pick it up and throw it out? You figure it out, and volunteer for the extra work, and then we’ll talk.
Two problems. First, the kids memorized what their government union teachers told them to say. Second, WHERE'S the reasoning? If makes no sense. How is this going to help everybody in the universe?
What cracks me up about it is when I ask people "why no plastic bags," they say they don't break down in a landfill. So what? A lot of things don't break down. Where's the harm? In fact, isn't burying them locking up that nasty carbon? If it broke down, one of the byproducts would be CO2! Isn't that good, according to them?
Years ago some people dug into a landfill and found newspapers from years ago that were still in readable condition. They were horrified that they didn't break down. Again, so what? More CO2 not released.
Aren't some people talking about growing trees and then storing the wood so sequester the carbon?
Why don't they tell the kids to tell people not to make plastic toys, plastic calculators, plastic computers, plastic phones, plastic TVs, etc.?
Just say, "Stop using plastic and help everybody in the universe including people who are going to be alive in the future."
Four years old...
Good grief! Good luck Ken. Someone is doing a number on that kid. Sorry to hear it.
Ken, I should warn you. Saturday morning cartoons are filled with these sorts of messages. You probably already knew, but no use exposing our kids to stuff like this. Of course, it’s your grandson, not directly your charge here.
It’s a full on frontal assault on kids these days.
